Although Mozart's popularity with the Viennese was at times greater than that of others, he was always popular with the Bohemians and loved by the people of Prague. A quote from the Prager Neue Zeitung shortly after Mozart's death expresses this sentiment: "Mozart seems to have written for the people of Bohemia, his music is nowhere better understood than in Prague, and even in the countryside it is widely loved." It is said that the Prague Symphony was written in gratitude for their high regard.
