【Classical music and nature 古典音樂小站】Franz Joseph Haydn: Symphony No.104 in D major, 'London' Hob.I:104 - IV. Allegro con Spirito. It has Creative Commons license (CC BY 3.0 DEED Attribution 3.0 Unported) and is provided through www.musopen.org.

Haydn first performed the symphony in Vienna on 18 December 1795. The nicknames "London", "Salomon" (or in older literature: "with the bagpipes") sometimes used for the work are not Haydn's own.

The Morning Chronicle reported on the premiere on 6 May 1795:

"More than half the pieces performed were by Haydn, and they afforded unquestionable evidence of the greatness and versatility of his abilities. [...] Haydn showed his appreciation to his well-meaning friends by writing a new symphony for the occasion, which some of the best connoisseurs believe surpasses all his other works in terms of fullness, richness and majesty in every movement. A gentleman, whose musical knowledge, taste and profound judgement are highly esteemed, expressed the following opinion: In the next fifty years composers would be little better than imitators of Haydn, and would produce little more than a second rehash. We hope this prophecy may prove false, but the probability seems to confirm the prediction."

The river was filmed by Simone Schlegel and the video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
