La Mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre (The Sea, three symphonic sketches for orchestra) is a composition by Claude Debussy. Begun in France in 1903 and completed in Eastbourne in 1905, it was premiered in Paris on 15 October 1905 by the Orchestre Lamoureux under Camille Chevillard. A performance of the piece, which is called both a symphonic poem and a symphony, lasts around 23 minutes and is a prime example of musical impressionism.

For me, the piece is almost a little too modern and impressionistic. What do you think? Does it still belong to classical music, or is it already part of modernism?
