This is Steeped in Cultured. Cultured. Cultured. This is Steeped in Cultured. Your guide to the
emerging American. To the emerging American tea culture. Red, green, black, Puerh, Oolong. There's
so many types of tea it can be overwhelming. I'm Theo with Steeped in Cultured and today we're
going to talk about the five classifications or types of tea. You can classify tea in many
different ways and different experts will give you different numbers. In my video series I'm
going to talk about different tea types in other videos but for today I want us all to get on the
same page talking about my five types of tea. White, green, black, oolong, and herbal. White tea is made
from the newest leaves and buds of a tea plant. It's light in color as you can see and generally
has a delicate taste sometimes almost floral. If green tea is too strong for you then I suggest
trying a white tea. China and Japan are really famous for their green teas. As you can see
green teas are generally green in color and the taste can range from vegetal to earthy to herby.
You probably associate black tea with England, the country that made it popular. There's lots of
different types of black tea, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, and there are several famous types from
India including Assam tea and Darjeeling. Black tea generally has very bold flavor. It's good with milk
and has a dark color. In this oolong category I'm including fermented teas as well as flavor teas.
Oolong is a special tea that undergoes a process of oxidation to give it a unique flavor.
Fermented teas such as Pu-erh and flavored teas such as jasmine green tea are also included in
this unique category. Herbal teas are not technically teas. In order for something to be a
tea it has to be grown from the camellia sinensis plants and herbal teas are herbs or leaves or
flowers that have been steeped but come from other plants. I hope these five tea classifications
help you to understand the world of tea better. This video brought to you by Steeped in Culture.
