Roman Gladius Hispaniensis sword (and importance of the Scutum)

In this video I take the opportunity of Gavin from SG1 bringing along his new gladius to class. I have been meaning to talk about the gladius for a while, but as my gladius blade still needs to be hilted I have been delaying! For me the critical point to take away from this video is that while the gladius is definitely a cut and thrust sword, thrusting was favoured primarily due to the use of large shields (scutum). #Swords #craftboy
