国土交通省は自動車メーカー５社に対し、型式指定に不正があったとして申請した車種の出荷を停止するよう指示した。マツダ社長は記者会見で、今回の件で顧客に多大なご心配をおかけし誠に申し訳ないが、今後もマツダ車の販売を継続すると述べた。
マツダによると、今回の不正は生産車両15万878台、販売車両14万9313台に影響を与えた。
不正の概要は、アテンザ（2014年11月～2018年4月に生産2万9547台）とアクセラ（2016年8月～2019年2月に生産6067台）を衝突試験で不正改造。再試験の結果、衝突時の保護性能は法律で定められた基準を満たしており、そのまま走行しても安全に問題はないことが確認されました。
出力試験では、ロードスターRF（2018年6月以降、10,930台）とMAZDA2（2021年6月以降、42,240台）の2車種のエンジン制御ソフトウェアを書き換えた。両製品とも生産は継続しているが、5月30日より出荷を停止している。安全には関係ないため、乗り続けることに問題はないとしている。
この事件は衝撃的だが、マツダはこれらの車両の運転を続けるのは安全であると強調している。この保証は、この事件が引き起こす可能性のあるご迷惑についてお詫びを表明するとともに、消費者の不安を軽減することを目的としています。

国土交通省はダイハツ工業などの不正事件で内部調査を要請した。マツダ以外にも、トヨタ自動車、ヤマハ発動機、ホンダ、スズキなどのメーカーが不正行為で有罪となった。

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism instructed five automakers to suspend shipments of models they applied for with fraudulent model designations. Mazda's president said at a press conference that although they are deeply sorry for the concerns this incident has caused to customers, they will continue to sell Mazda cars.
According to Mazda, the fraud affected 150,878 vehicles produced and 149,313 vehicles sold.
The outline of the fraud is that the Atenza (29,547 units produced between November 2014 and April 2018) and the Axela (6,067 units produced between August 2016 and February 2019) were tested in crash tests Fraudulent modification. The retest results show that the protective performance in the event of a collision meets the standards stipulated by law, and there will be no safety problems even if the vehicle continues to drive.
In the output test, the engine control software of two models was rewritten: Roadster RF (starting in June 2018, 10,930 vehicles) and MAZDA2 (starting in June 2021, 42,240 vehicles). Production of both products continues, but shipments have been suspended since May 30. It was stated that there was no problem with continuing to ride in the vehicle as it was not related to safety.
Although the incident is shocking, Mazda stresses that it is safe to continue driving these vehicles. This assurance is intended to alleviate consumer concerns while expressing an apology for any inconvenience this incident may cause.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has requested an internal investigation into fraud cases at Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. and other companies. In addition to Mazda, other manufacturers found guilty of fraud include Toyota Motor Corp., Yamaha Motor Co., Honda Motor Co. and Suzuki Motor Corp.
