I believe that balancing work and personal life has been very easy once you're on the
job because you have those four days on, four days off and you can really plan your life
around that because you know how long you're going to be, where you're going to be for
ten plus years if you don't change shifts.
Yeah, the role of a firefighter has a fantastic work-life balance.
Having that time off that is required is very beneficial I feel.
And being able to go off and do things with your family and loved ones and knowing that
okay, I'm coming to work to spend time with my other family, it balances out quite well.
The role offers great work-life balance but it depends again on your goals and what you
want to do because you could do your two days and two nights and four days off and just
be a fire station if that suits your lifestyle or your goals or whatever you want to do.
Or you could move into higher roles up in the office and then the shift pattern changes
and then you become Monday to Friday or you might come on call and then you do fire investigation
and you might, again, that's just another thing that you keep adding.
So it does offer good shift-life balance depending on your goals and what you choose to bring
into that and where your life is at.
The beauty of being on shift when you have a young family is being able to get to things
like canteen duty, assemblies, being able to coach their netball or football teams or
those sort of things.
So time with the family doesn't necessarily look normal but it's, yeah, I think there's
a lot of benefits to being on shift as a firefighter.
