KTM 1290 Super Adventure S Rider Reviews BMW R 1250 GS // English Subs
This is not a proper review but more my first impressions of the new 1250 GS after riding it for 2 days in the Sierras north and west of Madrid. This review is just my personal opinion after riding the bike for 860 km on mostly well paved curvy roads. I have owned a BMW R 1200 LC before I switched to KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. I had the BMW R 1200 GS LC for 2 years and rode it for 35,000 km - the KTM 1290 Super Adventure now has just over 20,000 km. I received a few questions on how these two bikes compare after posting the first video of the BMW R 1250 GS. First of they are both excellent motorcylces and on par when it comes to built quality in my opinion. They are similar in many respects as they are in the same adventure bike category - fully decked out with all the electronics they represent the pinnacle of adventure bikes today. I like these bikes for their long distance touring capability - I can ride either of these bikes for 800+ km in a day and get on the bike again the next day to rider another 800 km. In their natural habitat (the mountains ;-) ) they each have enough power for sportive riding and to chase the occasional sports bike up a mountain pass. The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S focusses more on the sport side - the power and torque out of that V2 engine beats the boxer hand down. The suspension can be set much harder than on the BMW R 1250 GS which I prefer when canyon carving. The BMW R 1250 GS lower point of gravity allows for better balancing at low speed and the engine setup is less agressive with massive torque at very low rpms. I could not really feel the extra power or torque from the shift cam system - maybe in a direct comparison it would be possible to tell the difference. I am happy with my choice of the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S for now but there is still much to like about the BMW R 1250 GS too.
