Chinese Traditional Story: The Kind Scholar Escaped The Disaster

This story took place before the Northern Song State was conquered by the Jin State. A scholar traveled a long distance to study at the college located in the capitol, Bian Liang. Whenever he had time, he went to a local tea house to relax. One day a Taoist came to the tea house and asked for alms. This Taoist was never unhappy if he was given few alms or overjoyed if people gave him more. The scholar was very kind and respectful of the gods. Whenever he had extra money, he gave it to others, and so he gave the Taoist alms. One day, the Taoist said, "You’ve given me alms every day, tomorrow can you give me a cup of tea?" So, the next day the scholar gave him a cup of tea. T
