Oil Painting Time Lapse Shadow Portrait.
Hey everyone, thanks for joining me for this painting time-lapse.
I'm working with oil paint on birch panel.
If you'd like to see a real-time painting and color mixing demonstration for this piece,
that will be available at patreon.com slash linadanya.
As all my recent paintings over the last couple of years have started,
I created an underpainting to establish some basic shapes and values.
And I do have a video about underpaintings,
which I will link in the description.
I wanted to experiment with mixing my base colors using a palette knife,
as I haven't really done so before.
And since my previous video,
I've received so many palette knife suggestions from you guys.
And I'm gradually trying out a few different ones.
So thank you so much for all that. I do appreciate your help.
This painting was a bit of an experimental piece.
I wanted to practice painting lower light,
darker shadows, slightly more harsh light,
and just create a different atmosphere.
I also went with earthier colors
rather than the bright saturated palettes of many of my older pieces.
I wanted to avoid making the painting entirely blue,
since I've done that so many times in the past.
I have so many blue heavy paintings
that I felt the need to go easy on the blue paint
and tone everything down a bit.
I fused a little bit of abstraction into the painting
using the palette knife to create some more texture
and sort of distort the realism a little bit.
As far as the light in this painting goes,
it's definitely different from my older pieces.
And I'm very excited to experiment more with light
and creating different shadows,
using light for composition.
There's another tiny painting I created with also low light,
and I painted it on a MetroCard for an art show
where all the paintings are on MetroCards.
Well, thank you so much for watching this painting time-lapse.
I hope you enjoyed this video.
