After a week driving around Portugal, we finally made it to Lisbon. At a first glance, this city is much different than everything else we had seen around the country. In fact, Lisbon looked more like any other large city you can see around the world. But we were ready to find the hidden gems around Lisbon.
First of all, we stayed at what is most likely the coolest hotel in Lisbon. The Homeboat Company offers one and two bedroom floating room with a full kitchen and sundeck. If you are looking for a special place to stay, this is really it. Book your stay in a homeboat here: https://www.davemani.com/portugal
Other than that, we left my parents behind to relax this time and we rented a little blue Vespa to explore Lisbon on our own. This was the best decision EVER! For our first afternoon with the scooter, rode down to the Belem, the Lisbon Old Town. We visited the 4th best McDonald's restaurant in the world, had some pastel the Belem, had a look at the Belem Tower and simply enjoyed the views of this stunning area of Lisbon. That night ended up back at the marina for a delicious Portuguese style meal with my parents.
For our second day in Lisbon, there was one thing we had to do and that was the famous Tram 28. Lisbon has a large network of tram that goes around the city but in the old town, they style have one line that runs trams from the 1930's. They are yellow trams and they look amazing. With that being said, these tram are extremely popular and we were a bit short on time so we did the second best thing! We took our little Vespa scooter and followed the track around town.
Overall, an amazing couple of days in Portugal's capital BUT if you have to pick between Porto and Lisbon, we suggest you visit Porto.

Welcome to Lisbon, Portugal, and we're staying on a boat.
Since we're already up here, let's start at the top. So we rented this from the Homeboat Company
and we have a two-bedroom. On the top of the two-bedroom, you have a hammock over there,
you have a lounger, you have another chair, beautiful green space on top,
but now let's go see inside. So this is actually the back of the boat. There is a hammock where
David is standing, but we're going to go in through our bedroom here. So inside, like I said,
we have two bedrooms. One opens up directly to the back, so this is our room, and up here is
where you can put your towels and everything. Here, second bedroom, that's where his parents
will be. And then into the kitchen, lots of cupboard space, coffee machine, dishwasher even,
fridge extra, obviously, chargeable. You even have a microwave. But then the bathroom is gorgeous.
Shower, toilet, it's a good size too. Close this. Welcome to our seating area. We even have AC.
We've got a TV, a little breakfast nook area, a little chilling area. So some of these can even
be configured with a sofa bed as well. So there's that option if you want more people.
Let's go see the front balcony. And then out front here, we have another seating area,
a barbecue if we want to make our own food, and a table here as well. But we're super hungry right
now, so I spot an Italian place. We've been craving pizza for some reason, so hopefully
they have good pizza. Let's go to Belly's Fold before we start exploring Lisbon.
I am so pumped for pizza. And just stand by, get another cool thing in this video.
I saw it earlier and I was like, I want one, so we're doing it. And it's matching my shirt.
Tracy's very hungry. Okay, see you later. Bye. So for today in Lisbon, we have a Vespa,
a blue Vespa. And I was told that it is the fastest Vespa in all of Europe. Probably not,
but still pretty cool. Other way, forward. Oh, yeah.
I don't drive a scooter very often. Okay, come on. Let's go. Now let's check out Belém.
So Belém is a small district of about 20,000 people. It is part of Lisbon, but definitely
the more touristy place. And talking about that, don't hate me, but the first thing that we're
going to do here is actually check the McDonald's because it is considered to be one of the most
stunning McDonald's in the entire world for some reason. It is number four globally in terms of,
wow, McDonald's. Okay, so the inside is okay at best. The reason why it is well known is because
it's a unique building. It's probably the only pink McDonald's in the entire world, but don't
feel like you need to go inside. Now we're going to go eat the number one thing that you need to
eat here in Belém, just across the street. So we had them in Porto, the place to have them in Porto,
but people have said that these ones are the best pastiche in the country.
So basically like these are just like little tarts with, what's in it? It's like a custard.
Yeah. So like, I mean, the top looks great. More. Really good, but I wouldn't say they're better.
No, I agree. I was so ready. The one in Porto was better. Still amazing though. You gotta try
them. I hear it's like a controversial thing, so I'm sorry if we offended everyone, but I think
the other ones are better. Still very good. Honest reviews. Up next, the Tower of Belém, which was built
in the 16th century and was there to defend Lisbon against enemy ships. It's just a beautiful old
building in the middle of the water. That's the thing about Europe, even though I'm not the biggest
like history buff, like these buildings are so beautiful, so impressive, like with so much details
that again, even if you're like me, it's worth a quick stop to check it out.
So the way people drive mopeds, park mopeds, it seems to have like no laws for mopeds. So I'm just
gonna leave my moped there, which is definitely a pedestrian area, but this is where we're staying,
so we'll see what happens. I kind of hid it behind like a big chair, so hopefully nobody sees it.
Tracy, is it dangerous to walk around the marina? Because you're wearing a helmet.
I think so, safety first. These houseboats are just so unique and so fun to stay in. The only
thing I'm gonna say, they're a bit expensive. For a one-bedroom, it was something like a thousand
dollars Canadians, and for two-bedroom was like fifteen hundred dollars Canadians. So you can do
the conversion, but yeah, quite expensive. Thankfully, like Tracy found a super good deal
on those on booking.com, and we get like 73% off or something, because otherwise,
like I wouldn't be paying 1500 bucks to stay somewhere. That's too much.
Are those better than the Porto ones, or these better?
No, you'll take a bite. Don't say anything. For us, it was like very evident.
I like the Porto one better. Same. Me too. Yeah, same.
It's crusty, but with... Oh, there's too much crust on there.
Yeah, not enough flavor inside. And it's not as sweet.
No, no. And then the other ones had the perfect balance of sweet and like...
Yeah, and the tart itself is not as like chewy, like it's just...
So, Porto all the way.
Okay, we're all nice and refreshed and no more helmet hair. Now, we are basically like at the
marina where we're staying, and there's like a bunch of little restaurants with patios and
everything like right on the side of the water. They look nice. Somebody who worked here told us
to go to the first restaurant, I think, which is a Portuguese restaurant, and we're in Portugal,
so we're in Portugal, eat like the Portuguese. Yeah. Let's see if it's any good.
Okay, so I got the salmon, and honestly, I've never had a salmon steak like this come out,
so I'm very excited to try it. Hold on, gotta get my first piece.
What? It's just grilled or there's something else?
No, just like salt and grill, and that is fantastic.
Okay, good night. Hopefully, nothing is going to happen to my Vespa there,
but nobody can seize it, really.
Good morning. So, we just had breakfast delivered, and I bet you those are from Mr. Croissant over
there. I saw them coming in. Sorry, distracted. Now, you drop off your breakfast in a little
basket, and you select how many eggs you want. So, Lucy's in there making our eggs currently.
We have some bread, some more bread. Yum.
Okay, see you later. Let's go, Tracy.
So, we're going back on the little Vespa for a little ride.
Motorcycle game? Yeah, yeah.
If there's one thing we haven't seen, then hopefully, we're going to figure out how this
works. Yeah. The Vespa's still there, and no ticket. I think, I think.
No tickets. So, that one special thing is the famous Tram 28. These trams are from the 1930s,
I think. They're yellow. The only thing is they're putting publicity on them.
I feel like they shouldn't do that. I was thinking that too when I saw it.
The other thing is, actually, it's three euros to go in, but the lines, it's only for tourists,
okay? This is the only line where they're still in service. No locals take those. The line is
going for a block. So, yeah, I think we're a bit short on time, but we're going to enjoy watching
it. So, not only is the tram beautiful itself, but I guess the route is too because you kind
of go through some historic, nice-looking places. So, from Mohammedan, we're going to
basically follow the track. Not follow the tram, but just follow the track that the tram is on,
and get like a faster mini tour. That's the plan, at least. So, we'll see.
We did it. So, we did the full track all the way to the end, where it starts to turn around
and come back. So, now, unfortunately, it's time for us to give our Vespa a ride.
Tracy, say goodbye. Should you rent a scooter in Portugal? Absolutely, yes. Yes. So fun.
Hello. Hello. Okay. All good. Perfect. They just have the best dog that lives here. It's just
amazing. Well, well, well, time to head to the airport. Say goodbye to my parents, as they're
actually, they're staying here another week, but we're going back to Kenya. But Portugal,
surprising. I loved it. We had a good time. So, I think the countryside, for me, was definitely
where it's at. Yes, 100%. Even Porto, I really enjoyed Porto. Lisbon, it's good. It's nice,
but it's more a big city, like you would see anywhere else. With that being said, the older
part of Lisbon, this is definitely where it's at. Where we went yesterday, a little bit more this
morning. Yes. Yeah. Overall, maybe we'll be back in Portugal. Maybe we'll do van life more. That's
for sure. Yeah. Until next time, see you guys. In the next one.
