Vienna, the capital city of Austria is know all over Europe for its incredible Christmas Markets. Starting mid-November, the city gets over 30 Christmas markets making them almost impossible to avoid.
Our Christmas market trip in Vienna started at the Belvedere Palace Christmas Market known to be the "fanciest" one in the city. With the beautiful Belvedere Museum in the background, the well decorated Christmas booth serving some of the best Christmas street food we've had to date and its antique carrousel, this place is simply amazing and full of Holiday magic. The highlight of this particular Holiday market was definitely the food. From the farmer's doughnut to the creamy and cheesy spatzeal dish, it was incredible!
From there we took the amazing public transportation of Vienna and made our way to the oldest Christmas Market in town which was first recorded back in 1722, located in Freyung Square (Freyungplatz). The Altwiener Christkindlmarkt focuses much more on local artisan and is the perfect place to buy some amazing Christmas presents for your friends and family which we did of course. And just a few meters away from this one stands the Am Hof Christmas market (Weihnachtsmarkt am Hof) which has much more food options.
Exploring the best Christmas Markets of Austria without going to the world famous Wiener Christkindlmarkt would be really wrong so of course it was on our list! Located in front of Vienna's City Hall in the Rathausplatz this is by far the largest Christmas Market we have ever seen. From attractions to food, local artisan, ice rink, and stunning Christmas decorations all around this market is simply incredible and if you can only visit one market in Austria, THIS IS THE ONE!
Overall, we had an amazing time visiting Vienna's Christmas markets and there is no better place to get into the Christmas spirit than Austria.
