NBA Live: Memphis Grizzlies def. Golden State Warriors | Game 2 NBA Playoff Highlights

Under two minutes to go Several of sportsman is Lamont. We are back with another podcast episode Today we got the rundown game of the day Warriors Grizzlies Two games on the slate, but the game we want to focus on is this game right here This more than ever was going to be one of the biggest swing games Of all of the playoff matchups that we have left this young memphis team A team that again a lot of up and down play against the minnesota timberwolves And there were a lot of questions on if this young team could execute in late game situations And again, we saw the memphis grizzlies pull out a very very close game um a golden state team A couple players go down with injury so Curious to see how they bounce back and we're curious to see what the injury report is going to look like going into game three But the memphis grizzlies win this one 106 to 101 in epic fashion and Ja Morant Had a game for the ages. Let's go ahead and get to the highlights grizzlies golden state warriors game two Gonna start this one out in the fourth quarter Grizzlies down one two minutes to go in the game In this time pajama rant to start to flex his muscles show what he can do in late game situations He knocks down a big three right there puts the grizzlies up 198 97 The warriors were able to always answer back and steph curry, you know late game situation right here He's able to get to the basket kick out Tough foul right there and again, I want you to guys see how the warriors were constantly able to attack the basket This is something that the grizzlies are gonna have to fix going into game three as steph curry gets the layup right there Put some up one point Two minutes to go in this game. And again, this is where Ja Morant is starting to show His experience in the league as this young team starts to transform into a veteran team Missing the services of dylan brooks another score ja morant drops jordan pool right there For the clutch layup and again, this is what you need from your star player not looking to pass the ball late game situation He absolutely has to take over if the grizzlies want a chance to win Curry gets his shot blocked right there Some might cry foul. A lot of people said that was a goal 10, but the warriors get it back Thompson with a quick shot right here And it was this game in the fourth quarter where the warriors actually looked like the younger team And the grizzlies look like the veteran team late game right here. We see ja morant holding the ball up top Running some clock down And he's really starting to pick pick apart his matchups He he really has a lot of confidence with wiggins garden. He misses the three right there We're able to reset and this game was about second chance points. The warriors had a ton of them The warriors had a ton of them to start the game Memphis came up with a clutch second chance point right there Missed shot right there and a critical foul call right here kind of changed the flow of the game The replay kind of shows there really wasn't a push either way You have to knock down the free throws ja morant makes both free throws puts puts memphis up 3 40 seconds to go Draymond green makes the layup And again, they're allowing these warrior guards to constantly get into the paint But who does the memphis grizzlies go right back to they go right back to their star player their star guard And again, there's he's just winning his one-on-one matchup and he makes a tough floater right here over clay and wiggins really There's no defense for that. He just made a tough shot warriors come down 20 seconds to go And again fumble the ball right here Just kind of looked out of sorts you I would have loved to see the warriors take a timeout right here And then there's a travel clay thompson you know again as opposed to Going for the best shot possible They turn the ball over Grizzlies get it back. They struggle to get a foul off right here. They put john morant back on the free throw line 13 seconds on the clock and he did a great job today of settling down Knocking down all the clutch free throws only missed one free throw on the night They're up five right here 13 seconds to go Warriors with one more chance one more shot to just give them a little bit of life and steph curry misses it off the glass As we see the memphis grizzlies close out game two 106 to 101 tough game hard fouls A couple injuries that we have to discuss but the memphis grizzlies got the job done and they go into golden state With a lot of confidence headed into game three And man they're going to be facing a very very upset golden warriors team this series is going to be one to watch All right, and this is a game where the warrior star shooting backcourt did not necessarily shoot the ball As well as we've seen them in the past as you can see right there 7 or 38 from the three-point line But they were still able to find themselves in the mix at the end of the game again Just mental errors at the end of that game very very uncommon for this golden state warrior team Uh, we get to clay thompson clay thompson 12 points on the night Um, not as efficient as many would have hoped he was actually 2 or 12 from the three-point line We get to wiggins 16 points on the night, but again very quiet 16 He had a massive dunk in the first half that really helped boost the confidence of the warriors But just wasn't enough draymond green six points 10 rebounds, um and seven assists Questionable if he was going to come back in his game after he took a massive elbow that sent him to The locker rooms to get stitches, but he was able to come back and perform Steph curry really carried this team tonight with 27 points on 11 of 25 shooting on the night Uh looney with four points, um, and I think the biggest question mark for this team um payton Gary payton second actually went out with an injury Um elbow injury after taking a flagrant to foul to the head from dylan brooks Dylan brooks was ejected from the game because of the foul But gary payton a second comes down on his elbow. It's reported that he does have a fractured elbow and Steve kirk says that they're gonna have to do an mri to see the seriousness of the injury and that will Ultimately determine how long he will be out but with that fracture to his elbow The one thing that is for certain is that payton the second his defense was surely missed As they struggled to contain john moran and he will more than likely be out Game three unless he can have some type of superhuman healing when we get to the team of the night though. We got to talk about the memphis grizzlies Um now jaron jackson jr Who had a massive game scoring the ball in the first one and only four points or actually only 12 points on the night tonight But again great effort, you know, you know, it's always good to see him play. Um, if he can stay out of foul trouble Uh, we also got seven points on the night Uh, we got seven points on the night for tillman tillman very very solid game Uh for that group right there. We have 47 points for john moran I mean when you talk about big-time playoff performances 15 and 31 on the field eight rebounds eight assists I mean when you see a young player start to evolve in this particular manner Put this team on his shoulders and carry them through the end of the game Especially when some of their scorers like desmond bain only five points on the night are struggling to score the ball surprisingly, they got 14 points off the bench from xavier williams his length proved to be A problem for this small ball lineup of the warriors, especially late game and then brandon clark with 10 points off the bench Mr. Consistency, um is back at it again. So those 24 points off the bench uh between those two players is really what propelled this team and Again, it ultimately came down to john moran, you know, if john moran Just scores 30. It just does an average game golden state is up to oh so can john moran Can john morant duplicate this superhuman performance in golden state Where we know that crowd is going to be ruckus They still have to try to steal a game in golden state because they gave up home court advantage in game one This is where we will either see this young grizzly team completely fold and find themselves down 3-1 or They can steal a game And potentially get back to memphis with this series tied And and and so right now these next two games are really going to determine the season for this young memphis team But you have to give this young team A round of applause for being able to fight in a in a late game situation where they were actually down four And john morant completely just takes over the end of the game. Just make him some miraculous shots over Great defense and we saw what that great defense was able to do in game one And it forced john morant into making a few bad plays and missing some clutch shots But in this game right here, he was just unstoppable getting to all of his spots Um highly efficient from the field even knocking down a few threes That's what the warriors are looking to give them Um as far as scoring and they're packing the paint, but he was able to score over multiple defenders time and time again tonight The rebounds is going to be key as you can see right here on the screen 52 rebounds for the golden state warriors a smaller lineup. That's out rebounding a bigger lineup Um, and then when we look at the assist the warriors are moving the ball much more efficiently Um when they take this to golden state It is not they're not going to be able to win this with a one-man show John morant is not there. They cannot rely on him to drop another 47 points to bail them out All right guys like desmond bain is gonna have to try to find his jump shot Uh, jared jackson jr cannot come up small and have those quiet nights to for them to steal a game in golden state They're gonna have to have a complete team effort and when they eventually get that effort I don't know, but hopefully this is where we can see the memphis grizzly blossom right here But then we go points in the paint 60 points in the paint for the golden state warriors with a small ball lineup With no true centers on the floor at least offensively All right, that is something right there that over the course of this series Is going to start to wane and wear on this younger memphis team and it's going to really start to do this, you know Without you having that memphis crowd behind you without that memphis crowd behind you Really motivate you through some of the toughest times of the games when they go on to golden state How do they react when golden state? I don't I don't see them going away from this particular strategy of of Pounding the paint no not being as reliant on a three-pointer tonight now tonight they did fall into Uncharacteristically of just chucking up a lot of threes You see 7 to 38 on the night grizzly shot the ball a little bit better 14 to 45 So both teams are still chucking up a lot of threes that tells you right there There's an emphasis and I think golden state has the edge if you're going to pack the paint who has the advantage there All right, so the grizzlies 42 points in the paint. The majority of that was john marant doing a lot of work Uh getting inside the middle of the lane floaters layups at the rim just unstoppable and then 13 steals All right, the warriors those 18 turnovers. They have to cut those turnovers down if They want to bounce back when they head back to golden state But you know second in the league in turnovers all year long those turnovers in this game came back to bite them Especially since their shots were not falling only 12 turnovers on the night for the memphis grizzlies. So again great game Probably a you know a performance by john marant that's gonna go down in the history books 47 points To win this game by five very very close game um, we saw dylan brooks get ejected from this game for the flagrant two foul and That was once I saw that foul happen with dylan brooks. I knew it was going to be labeled as a flagrant two because Those are that referee crew set the precedence for what a flagrant two is By ejecting draymond green and I almost thought it was a foregone conclusion. It was a kind of an unnecessary foul I don't think he really had an opportunity to get to make a true play on the ball where gary payton was but that same foul also Cost the warriors a lot as it looks like they're going to be without gary payton a second for the remainder of this series But those injury reports will be coming out soon But you guys it's been a great podcast episode again, we're going to be doing these matchup of the days We're gonna we got to feature a game. We watched the celtics bounce back um with a blowout win versus the bucks, right that that was tonight was a night where They look like they missed chris middleton's offense and defense bad All right, and it also looks like the boston celtics are starting to really figure out how to slow down giannis antenna cupo And again, they're one of the few teams in the league that have enough versatile defenders to where they can kind of pick and choose Which one of those guys? Kind of has his number in grant williams Iso defense on giannis antenna cupo Has has been excellent if you guys haven't watched that again If you're a young big looking On how to learn how to defend at an elite level watch grant williams and his defense on giannis antenna cupo Look, you're not going to stop him from getting his points But he's too dominant and there's too many plays being ran for him throughout the course of the game but his individual defense on giannis and cupo in game two is what Definitely propelled and led that team to a blowout victory Tonight so again that series is also tied.
