Gravitational waves are ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by large cosmic events such as black holes colliding. Their detection was possible thanks to LIGO, a large-scale physics experiment and observatory designed to detect cosmic gravitational waves and to develop gravitational-wave observations as an astronomical tool.
Today, we will take a closer look not only at how we came to this discovery in the first place but also at who the main players in the story were, what problems they faced, why they suffered from imposter syndrome, and what personal values have to do with it all.
