[Music]
morning guys welcome to a brand new
gardening week my name is Emma these are
my allotment Diaries I'd love for you to
subscribe to my YouTube channel if
you're new kids are back at school now
it's a nice new week we're in pretty
much in the midst of April Now sort of
in the middle of it I can't believe I
don't know where the time has gone um
I've just full on walked through a
spiderweb like literally
head straight through a spiderweb so
I've just had a total freak out my
hair's all over the place um I was just
like shaking like a dog so not the
greatest start to a Monday morning I
also woke up with crippling anxiety this
morning as well so the spider didn't
help also can I just say every single
tree that I walked under on the way here
pigeons have fled from the tree really
quickly which has absolutely freaked me
out like I don't know I think they know
I'm
anxious I think they know I'm anxious
today and they just do it on purpose
just a just a taunt with me morning
Einstein I can hear Einstein up in the
tree I brought him something today so I
couldn't find any meal worms but what I
did find is this I actually found this
in uh TK Maxx and it was actually how
much was it
$399 $3.99 so it's like little fat balls
little balls of fat that they eat um and
it is good for blue tits C tits robins
and sparrows so I thought I'd give him
this instead there's always a little
little bit suspicious when I give him
something new so I'm not expecting him
to love it straight away but I'm going
to sort this out and put it in the tree
see what he
does there he is there he is he's not
scared by the new lot swirly windmill
things at all he's been here every day
it's just that I haven't had any food to
feed him so I feel really bad about that
look he's sitting there in the tree and
he's just looking at these these do not
scare him at
all no not one
bit wrapped up
they don't look very appealing to me
Einstein I'm going to be
honest not
bad not did you just land on my camera
just landed on my camera it's it's so
annoying I might hang it quite low you
know I was going to put it up in the
tree but actually apparently Robins like
to be quite close to the ground you're
like me I don't like heights
yeah right have a look at
that Einstein have a look at that what's
that go on
Einstein it's not poison it's
food go
on I need more of a perch to sit on it's
what I'm going to
do that's better that's better with the
stick through it hey are
look with the
stick not sure if that could completely
convinced by that but you know what I
think they will actually like it and
it's supposed to be really really good
for them to eat that um but I will
probably get some more meal worms now
because I I want them to be happy anyway
right we've got a few jobs to do today
the first job is the one that I have
been dreading I am going to try and
clear up a little bit of my shed so I'm
going to be really honest here I mean
look how beautiful my lotman plot is
first let's try and uh keep a positive
spin on this neat beautiful perfect
little Che D lips coming up and then on
this one over here look look at this
neatness absolutely lovely just ignore
that bit there so I am capable of
neatness and cleanliness let's just all
keep that in mind as I show you my shed
here we
go oh
no yep this has become the state of the
bed of the bed the shed I hope it's not
my bed um it's someone's bed because I
think there's some mice in here that
been eating everything
but basically it is just sort of bags so
I was thinking if I get a bag and put
all the bags in a bag this is going to
be instantly better so let's do that oh
God oh
God I'm going to put some gloves on
because just in
case it just feels like it's more
protective to put gloves
on oh God are we really going to do this
yes I think we are
[Music]
[Music]
right the beginning bit was quite easy
but now we're venturing in more this is
where the concern starts to sort of set
in a little bit you know actually got to
go into it which I don't really want to
do
needle
this need all this I need that oh look
there a
scrimer I didn't know I had
that that's a
scrimer doesn't work but it's
[Music]
there nessing I've got more
I didn't know I had
that that's
[Music]
good massive one huge
ginormous it's going pretty well I have
to say I've only had one freak out um
and I am definitely getting through the
rubbish it's already looking more
manageable and I am actually finding
some really cool stuff in here it's kind
of like going shopping for free um
because I found loads of stuff like I
found all this netting which is really
good I mean fleece really good I found a
brand new bit of netting I found a
strimer I found one of these things my
da is I mean
ultimately a shed isn't really supposed
to be like pristine I don't think so
anyway like there seems to be this new
thing to have like perfect sheds but my
shed is oh what is that oh no it's just
a bit of netting okay um yeah I I just
don't think sheds are supposed to be
perfect like if you don't have a perfect
beautiful
shed just think it's okay you know like
don't worry about it it's just a
shed there there of pots in
here good I can use these oh that's
another pot you got anything in it on
toward no excellent well done pots you
have resisted the
spiders oh she don't say that word in
here okay just going to scoop this up
put it in the bag just going to scoop it
up that's
missing okay Emma you're just going to
scoop it up and put it in the bag just
going to scoop it up put it in the
bag it's so easy
Emma it's so
easy it's so easy it's so easy we will
just scoop it up and put it in
[Music]
there oh my
God I want to
die la
la if everyone's arriving they can just
hear me
oh freaking he my
scissors my
scissors found my
scissors things are looking
up found my
scissors
excellent oh God her
CET I found this guy in the shed can you
see him properly on camera he is like um
leopard print and I think that means
that he's actually a good guy he's a
good slug he eats other slugs I'm pretty
sure he eats other slugs so he can stay
I'm happy for him to stay where should I
put him I think he's a slug eating slug
you know I'm going to put him over
here I'll just leave him on the box for
a minute minute but I think this guy
eats other slugs so not all snugs slugs
are
[Applause]
evil so I think to keep this job
manageable today so that I can actually
complete it I'm going to just focus on
the floor so the floor of the shed is
now cleared cleared out I'm going to
give it a little sweep out I don't know
what with cuz I don't have a broom I
could put something ink soft over my
rake couldn't I that's a good idea right
let's try that we'll give it a sweep and
then we'll focus on the other stuff
another day so I was just thinking this
sort of looks like a broom but it's
obviously got metal so if we just
put like
soft around the
metal we can sort of make a
broom to be honest a broom is not
something I ever thought I'd need it in
a lot plot so it's not on my list of you
know
Essentials all right let's try
it genuinely don't see why this wouldn't
work so this is
exciting one my
inventions yeah see broom that's all the
broom is it's just a rake that's softer
that's all the Brio
is yeah
there we go we've decoded the myths
behind a broom how clever are
we
lovely now what do I do with it just
Chuck it
out yeah okay Che it out we'll deal with
it later when it's not in the
shed what we'll
do you can see that's very cleverly I
actually um staple gun uh tarping down
at the bottom of my shed when I first
got it cuz I knew I knew it would get
wet and muddy and all the rest of it and
I didn't want the floor to rot and I
sort didn't have anything else to put
down so there's tarping in the bottom
and at the top this is like insulation
felt stuff which um they was left over
when we got our Loft done and I took it
down here and just pinned it on the
ceiling to try and like insulate it a
bit I do think underneath there is
probably a lot of
spiders but if if they stay under there
I'm sort of happy with it and then
obviously this is the section of the the
shed that still needs to be done to be
honest this is neater this is mainly
just pots and things I need to organize
give it a bit of a sweep and then under
there I don't even know what's under
there I don't even want to talk about
what's under there but we can get in the
shed now I'm in the shed I mean my heart
is absolutely pounding out through my
chest you can I'm out of breath I'm I'm
stressing I'm anxious I'm I'm not
enjoying it I'm not enjoying it I don't
want to be in here but I am in here
that's the point I can see my pictures
got so many pictures in my shed you
might not seeing them got a few pictures
that people sent me someone sent me that
and then I've sort of drawn that one and
someone sent me this this is me on my
allotment plot my little watering can
and then we got all the flowers up this
is the thing I made to put my tools on
which I haven't been able to get to and
then this one here is what my husband
Drew which I just pinned up it's the
spiders all behind it it's just
disgusting and then I've got another
thing here to hang tools on so let's
hang the tools up cuz I do have the
means to hang it up it's just that I
haven't been able to get in there you
know I'm not an idiot I do hang stuff up
when I can get to
it right the camera is all wibbly wobbly
there's no room to put you anywhere else
you're going to have to stay a little
bit wibbly wobbly what tools am I
actually hanging up I don't have any
tools hang on where are my tools going
where are all my tools
just hung over a dead spider I'm not
even joking turn it over a dead spider
it's acting like it's not there but it's
there see I'll never get them out again
now I'll never get to them again
nails are
gone no that won't work never mind just
leave it at that okay cool so this is
sort of how I want my shed to be in an
ideal world for a little bit when I
didn't have anything it was sort of Mis
neat all the time obviously the table
needs to be sorted out but like I said
that's just pots and things but yeah I
mean how lovely with this be just be
able to walk in here grab my tools maybe
a box on the floor or something and
that's sort of it but
unfortunately all of this has to sort of
go back in because I this can all go to
the dump hopefully the weekend I can get
my husband to take it to the dump but
like all this and stuff needs to go back
in so we're going to just have to sort
put it in neatly at least we know that
it is possible that it can be cleaned
now we know together we found out right
let's stuff it back in then right I have
put it all back in but I actually have
managed to keep it quite neat so all
these bags here this is all rubbish um
and then what I need to do I do need to
sort this out before we go to the dump
and make sure there's no rubbish here
cuz I don't think I need this many pots
do you know what I mean I always keep
them and think God that that' be useful
I'll plant something in that but I sort
of never do I think they need to be
taken home as well cuz that's where I do
most of my seed sewing and then under
there we do need to have a little look
under there but I think you'll agree
this is like a hundred times better and
it's organized I know what everything is
now so the only question remaining is
how do I get rid of all these cobs and
spiders in the shed what I would ideally
like to do is a sweep of the shed and
kind of get rid of it all if I was at
home I'd have the Hoover out and I'd
just Hoover them all up but I don't
think you can do that at an
allotment I don't know if there's a
petrol powered Hoover I could buy no
maybe not um but I just ignore I said
ignore that I said that I need someone
to come in here and just help with the
spiders that's what I need um lots of
ideas from you guys I have got
peppermint essential oil at home so I
might put that in a bottle and sort of
spray it around but I sort of don't want
them to come out do you know what I mean
like I don't want to see them I kind of
want to get rid of them secretly someone
else said cobwebs quite a good
idea no not cobwebs sorry that's
absolutely mental cobwebs would attract
them um
conquers cobwebs conquers are very good
apparently at um detering them but we
will see anyway it needs UNS spidering
that's what my shed needs but yeah there
we go the shed pretty organized now I
think you'd agree so now that I spent
most of my time in there I actually want
to do some weeding today so let's do
[Music]
that for
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
oh hang on a second I've just noticed
that something something has snapped and
crushed all my bloing onions is that
foxy oh no oh my gosh look at all this I
thought onions were just like easy peasy
safe because no slug or snail likes to
eat onions really I don't know why I
love onions but they don't like them
that's so annoying to be fair this is
the first time he's done it I don't
think he's done it before so
maybe it's just a oneof that is slightly
annoying but not too much damage so I
think I think they will survive and
let's just hope foxy doesn't come back
again I guess B quent I saying that I
think what I ultimately you need to do
is get a hi Einstein I need to get a
fence along around my plot just to keep
foxy out um yeah so I kept feeding him
didn't I that slug's gone the slug is
gone I mean anyone who says that slugs
and snails are slow are lying absolute
lying because what's eating
that he's gone he's on the Move he's
hunting slugs excellent
right I think I'm going to call it a day
there today um because I've I've been
traumatized from doing my shed and I've
done a lot of weeding um and I'm just
sort of going to leave it there now I
have had a lot of questions about the
Slugs and snails and a lot of you saying
how do I carry on when they everything
gets eaten a lot of you have given up
with your Gardens or given up growing
stuff all together because of the Slugs
and snails and I think for me I just
keep going I don't know like I said I'm
going to start planting more stuff that
they don't like like onions garlic um
the fruit bushes they tend to leave
alone things like that but I think the
aim is just to keep whacking stuff in
they can't eat everything guys they just
can't they just can't and if they can
good luck to them um because they're
going to be fat as anything and at least
I'm feeding something at least something
is enjoying my garden I think the the
aim is just to keep going and try not to
be too disheartened I will be trying
lots of of um different Slug and snail
defenses over the next few weeks so stay
tuned keep watching my channel if I can
do it with the amount of slugs and
snails that I've got then you definitely
can as well it's all about just finding
what works and just perseverance just
keep going don't let those little slimy
Critters win okay we're humans we're
bigger than them I'm going to see you
again on Wednesday have a lovely
gardening week see you Wednesday thanks
for watching bye
