Chinese Traditional Story: Wang Kejiao Meets Immortals

Wang Kejiao was born in the Su State and lived on the south bank of the Song River. He was a fisherman. Even though he was thirty years old he did not really believe that Taoists existed in the human world. One day, when he was on his boat singing a song above the river, he suddenly saw a colourfully painted boat with seven Taoists. They all looked very young and were wearing various styles of clothes. some servants accompanied them, as well as a man dressed in yellow. Just as the Taoists’ boat drew near, much to his surprise, one Taoist called out his name. The Taoist invited Wang Kejiao to come aboard their boat! As soon as he boarded, Wang Kejiao noticed that beautifully carved jade plates holding fruit and wine were in front of each Taoist.
