The Violin Sonata in G Minor is a four-movement work for solo violin and continuo accompaniment, first published in 1720 as the eleventh piece in the First Book of Sonatas for Solo Violin and Accompaniment. Its authorship, however, has been disputed for two reasons: first, there is reason to believe that the presently known version is in fact a re-arrangement for violin based on an earlier transcription of the sonata for viola by P. Klengel. Secondly, according to some sources, the contents of the book of sonatas in which this work is listed are based on compositions by Giuseppe Valentini and Francesco Antonio Bonporti, which could render this sonata spurious.
