The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a statement saying they have been "enormously touched" by the outpouring of support following the princess revealing she is undergoing cancer treatment.
Good morning, thanks for your company. We do want to get straight to our top story this morning and we begin with some breaking news.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have responded to the outpouring of support for the future Queen after her shock cancer diagnosis.
Daily Mirror's Royal Editor Russell Myers joins us right now. Russell, thanks so much for being with us and good morning to you. What can you tell us?
Well, a really heartfelt and emotional statement we've just received from Kensington Palace tonight.
And I'll just read some of it for you. It's saying the Prince and Princess are exnormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness' message.
They are extremely moved by the public's warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.
And I think, you know, these sentiments that we've seen pouring out all over the world after Kate's incredibly brave message that she gave yesterday has really sort of filled the void as it were.
Because we've had this sort of clambering for information all across social media. There's been a lot of hurtful and unkind and outlandish comments.
And I think Kate has totally put that to bed. And when you watched her message or even read the words, you can't help but be moved by it.
And I think that she'll have the right time to rest and recuperate and have that privacy that she's asked for.
Which she deserves too. Russell, we're also seeing the whole family rallying around her.
Yeah, we are. We're reports tonight that Kate shared lunch just before her statement with the King.
And I think that that shows you that they are both going through this enormous moment in their lives, both the King and Kate going through cancer treatment at the same time.
An absolutely extraordinary set of events. The King diagnosed in early February and Kate diagnosed just a few days later.
And it is a really momentous time this for the royal family. And I think the rest of the family are going to have to pull together to support both of them.
You know, spare a thought for Prince William, dealing with his father who has been diagnosed with cancer, his wife now suffering from the disease and also three young children at home as well as his duties.
And we will hopefully see him back to work after the Easter break.
Yeah, not to mention losing his mother, William, when he was a teenager. Now his father's diagnosed with cancer, his wife as well.
We are thinking of that family and we're wishing them all the very, very best, especially Kate.
Hey Russell, thanks so much for being with us.
Thanks.
