Youri Egorov plays Tchaikovsky Andante and Finale Op.79

A November 2, 1974 concert recording of Youri Egorov playing Tchaikovsky's Andante and Finale Op.79 for piano and orchestra, with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Roberto Benzi. The 20-year-old Egorov was on the verge of beginning a remarkable career that would sadly be cut short by illness and his untimely death at the age of 33.

Despite his young age at the time of this performance, Egorov plays with both stunning facility and remarkable maturity: not only does he have wonderful tone and burnished phrasing, but his timing in transitions is coordinated with incredible subtlety and spaciousness.
