We asked New Yorkers how they get their news and if it's an important part of their lives.
An unusual topic for viewers of a political talk show.
How do New Yorkers get their news, and is it an important part of their lives?
They're weighing in on your point.
Do you think it's important to watch, read, or listen to news?
I think it's very important to know what's going on.
It's very important to stay informed, to help manage one's life.
You need to know what's going on in the world today.
I think it's important because you have to stay up to date with every single topic that's
trending around the world.
And not just the world, just locally too.
I want to know what's going on, especially in my neighborhood if things are happening.
I really listen to news because it's pure crap.
So where do you get your news?
I get it primarily from the New York Times.
From the TV, that's it.
And radio.
Television, basically.
I mean, many different sources.
I look at BBC News, because I'm from the UK.
I guess, for the street, stowaway.
Some of the news shows, although there's way too many commercials on them, so you sort
of get tired.
I like watching, you know, Russell Brand's take on things.
I get it from the television, and the internet.
Thousands of local media, newspapers, and others have closed in the last decade.
Is that good or bad?
I actually didn't even know that.
I think that's a bit alarming.
I think it's a bad thing that news publications are closing.
I think it's important to have a diversity of opinions when it comes to news.
It just makes the community more vibrant and important.
So it's unfortunate that so many media, as you say, thousands, a lot of them, have gone
out of business, particularly print media, as far as I know.
And so I think it's unfortunate.
So what do you think can be done to save local media outlets?
Oh, okay.
For people to understand what they are.
It's a hard one.
But it's important, one thing.
It's important, right?
Very, very, very.
I think maybe stopping from entertaining that mainstream media, you know, like engaging
with the, because that's what they want, they want, you know, obviously your viewership
or like your attention.
So I think maybe stopping that.
I think it's just the local community wanting to, realizing how important it is to having
a local newspaper available to just keep people up to date on what's going on locally.
As long as information, the ability to get information to people adapts, we shouldn't
be too alarmed.
A lot of people are not looking at them because there's so many, we've been bombarded with
so many bad news and people get frustrated, you know, and then they like a little good
stuff, you know?
You want more good news.
That would help.
It would help all of us, right?
Oh, yes.
Yes.
