Nepali men are being trafficked into Russia’s war against Ukraine | ABC News
Mar 17, 2024
Russia doesn’t have enough soldiers to fight in its war against Ukraine, so it’s enlisting Nepali recruits using social media platforms like TikTok.
With promises of around $2000 USD/month and fast-tracked citizenship- Nepali men are being trafficked into Russia, then finding themselves on the frontline of the war in Ukraine. It has been labelled a scam.
Those who makes it back are telling harrowing tales- and the families of those who don’t- are not being compensated or having the bodies returned.
Earlier this year, the Nepalese government banned its citizens from joining the Russian army- but the practise appears to continue.
