One day Casey Fisher was enjoying a cup of coffee at a fast food cafe. Something caught her eye through the window. There was a homeless man outside, picking up coins that had fallen from his pocket.
He entered the cafe and started counting his coins.
Casey noticed so much sadness and a sense of dissapointment about this homeless guy.
She realized that he probably did not have enough money to buy himself a meal. She decided to help him out. She called him over and offered him a sandwich and coffee. He looked famished and accepted her offer graciously.

She invited him to join her at her table and he was quite taken by her offer and joined her.
He introduced himself as Chris and they made small talk. He told her how he landed on the streets. He came from a troubled home. His father was a violent man and used to beat Chris and is mom black and blue. He said that it got so out of hand that he started to fear for his life and he ran away from home.
Unfortunately, life on the street was a little bit more of the same, because there he as also beaten and bullied. He tried with all his might to find a job to just to get off the street. With no success. Doors were repeatedly slammed in his face because of his appearance.

Eventually a sense of hopelessness and suffering led him to drugs. It was the only escape from his hard reality. Chris told Casey about the loss of his best friend, his precious dog, that recently died of old age.
Casey listened and empathised with Chris’ sad story. Trying hard to hold back her tears. She did not want him to feel offended by her pity.
Chris opened his heart to her, he said that after he ran away, his mother passed away unexpectedly and he felt even more alone in the world.
They talking for ages until Casey had to leave for a meeting. As she was about to say goodbye, Chris asked her to wait a bit.
He asked the cashier for a pen and paper, wrote something on it and passed it to Casey. He apologized for his bad handwriting and thanked her for the meal and caring conversation.
After leaving the cafe, Casey unfolded the note from Chris. What she saw there touched her deeply. She realized that he gave her something more valuable than the breakfast she had bought for him.
The note said: Today I was going to commit suicide but thanks to your kindness, I dont want to do it anymore.
