The Mirage 2000 was designed by France and is the only delta-wing aircraft in the third generation of combat aircraft currently in service that does not have front wings, which is a unique design.France's unique approach to fighter aircraft development is not only reflected in the Mirage 2000, but also in the formation and development of the entire Mirage series of aircraft.In May 1965, after the British Labour Government suspended the TSR2 program, it announced to cooperate with France to jointly develop a variable swept-wing tactical aircraft to replace the TSR2, which was named AFVG.The RAF's proposal was to use the F-111K, which was being developed by the United States, and the Variable swept-wing Mirage G, based on the amplified Mirage F1. The British requirements were based on ground attack and the French on air interception, so the AFVG broke up soon after.
幻影2000戰鬥機由法國自主設計，是現存服役第三代戰鬥機中唯一採用不帶前翼的三角翼飛機，這是一種獨樹一幟的設計。法國在戰鬥機研製方面獨樹一幟的做法不僅體現在幻影2000上，更是體現在整個幻影系列飛機的形成和發展之中。1965年5月英國工黨政府政府中止TSR2計劃之後，宣佈與法國合作，共同研製替代TSR2的可變後掠翼戰術飛機，計劃名稱爲AFVG。當時皇家空軍的建議是選用美國正在研製的F-111K，法國在放大的幻影F1的基礎上研製可變後掠翼的幻影G，英國方面的要求以對地攻擊爲主，法國的要求則是以空戰截擊爲主，兩邊的需求達不到一致，因此AFVG不久之後便宣告散夥。
