In the 19th session of the United Nations World Heritage Committee held in Berlin, Germany in 1995,
Three tribes, namely Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture and Aizura and Suganuma in Gokayama, are registered as World Cultural Heritage at the same time.
The reasons for being registered as a World Heritage include outstanding buildings and landscapes that represent the historical era, and the ability to see traditional settlements and land use.
In order to adapt to the mountain climate, people in the past put great effort into building Gassho-zukuri and used various techniques.
For example, the roofs of Aikura and Suganuma are more sloping because the snow in these two places is thicker in winter, and the sloping roofs allow snow to fall naturally.
Next, we will work on the parts of Shirakawa-go and Aikura.
