Marvels of the Human Body
This post explores some of the most astonishing aspects of the human body, asking fundamental questions such as: Where do we come from, and how does the body generate our experience of the world around us?
While creating this piece, I uncovered a number of remarkable insights into human biology and evolution, and I wanted to bring them together in a single, engaging, and motivational presentation. From our shared ancestry to the surprising resilience of the brain, this video highlights just how extraordinary the human body truly is.
Did you know that you and I are roughly 50th cousins? Or that mitochondria were once independent alphaproteobacteria before becoming an essential part of our cells? Or that it’s possible to survive with only half of a brain? These fascinating facts challenge how we think about life, identity, and the nature of being human.
This project was an experiment in doing something a little different creatively. It represents a major edit, made possible by a new high-performance computer. Some visuals use stock footage and pre-built effects, while others were created entirely in-house using my custom “BioWorld 3D” software. More details on that will be shared in a future blog post.
