Why does the emperor still have to be humiliated?
In ancient India, Buddha Thitka Muni,
when he was in power,
set up a law
in which there was a rule
that monks were not allowed
to deposit money into the Buddha.
As time went by,
people gradually forgot
Buddha's words.
In the Tung dynasty,
the Han Chau Monastery
was run by a monk
named Chi Thuyen.
Every time he received
money from his ancestors,
he was not proud
to take it or use it.
He had a kind heart.
One day,
a monk in the temple
told Chi Thuyen that
the temple had quite a lot of
money from his ancestors.
Chi Thuyen borrowed 100,000 dong.
Later, the emperor
decided to give him
3,000 dong.
At first, Chi Thuyen didn't agree
because he didn't want
to take the money
as his own.
But in the end,
he still let the other person
borrow money.
A few months later,
the monk borrowed the money
and the emperor gave him 3,000 dong.
Chi Thuyen borrowed
3,000 dong
to buy incense and candles
for the temple.
In the temple,
there was a very kind cat.
Every day,
he followed Chi Thuyen
and took good care of him.
When the cat died,
the monk took good care of him.
One day,
Chi Thuyen was sleeping.
In his dream,
he saw the emperor.
In the palace,
there was an emperor
who looked very elegant.
He came to welcome him
and bowed to him.
Chi Thuyen answered
and asked,
What are you doing here?
Why did you come here
to receive
such a favor?
The emperor said,
I was wrong in the past.
I suffered too much
to be a vegetarian,
so I became a cat.
Today,
I have paid off all my debts.
Because of my pious nature,
I should be honored.
I am the cat
that you loved
and took care of
for 6 years.
I still often think
about how to repay
your kindness.
When the emperor came,
he had something to say.
Not long ago,
he gave a monk
in the pagoda a loan
of 3,000 dong.
Although the money
was used to worship Buddha,
his selfishness
was also an unethical act.
He had to suffer
in hell.
Chi Thuyen heard this
and was very scared.
The monk said,
I asked him
before.
Other methods
can only be used
in the world
when you have to
suffer 30 times.
There is no other way
except that.
After hearing this,
Chi Thuyen woke up.
He thought,
I have been a master for a long time.
I have always been respected
by the nobles and the people.
If I accept to be beaten,
what else can I do?
I should suffer
and hope
that I can get rid
of this misfortune.
So he gave up everything
to make a bed for the nobles
and suffered
a lot.
For more than a year,
Chi Thuyen had to
go to the pagoda
to worship Buddha.
At that time,
all the nobles
went to worship Buddha.
In the pagoda,
there were no visitors.
Chi Thuyen was angry
and had to
worship Buddha.
Chi Thuyen was angry
and had to
worship Buddha.
Chi Thuyen was angry
and had to
worship Buddha.
Chi Thuyen could only
see
his action as a miracle
that he could
never see again.
From that day on,
he often advised the needy to not take money
or of their own self-interest.
Before Bodhisattva Thitthaka Moni entered Nibbana,
Ananda asked,
After Bodhisattva Thitthaka Moni entered Nibbana,
which master should we follow?
Bodhisattva Thitthaka replied,
Vishuddhi means
to follow the Buddha's teachings.
There are so many Buddha's teachings
that have been passed down
to hundreds of thousands of Buddhist scriptures.
Why didn't Bodhisattva Thitthaka Moni
tell his disciples to follow any of those scriptures
but instead said to follow the Buddha's teachings?
Because the Buddha's teachings
are the only teachings that the Buddha left behind.
And the scriptures are passed down
by disciples for many lifetimes.
Many generations remember
what has been passed down
but leave out
what the Buddha wanted to convey.
Or some of the scriptures
were later increased
and stood at their own level
and explained,
not only did they not express
the Buddha's teachings in depth,
but also did not have the capacity to do so.
Therefore, it can be seen that
the scriptures are the most important thing
that Bodhisattva Thitthaka Moni left behind.
It is necessary for the disciples
to follow and keep them seriously
in order to reach the standard
of a true practitioner.
Therefore,
when they only read the scriptures
but do not keep the scriptures,
no matter how long they practice,
no matter what position they hold in Buddhism,
whether they are a monk or a monk,
they are no longer
the true disciples of Bodhisattva Thitthaka.
