Ernest Hemingway was called the most significant author since Shakespeare born in America. He showed a talent for writing from a young age throughout his life. His novels and short stories reached high critical and commercial success. However, his life was a sad story. Hemingway was one of six children of his parents. His family was a deeply troubled unit. His father, who suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder and had violent tendencies, chose to end his life by suicide with a gun. Meanwhile, his mother insisted on raising him and his sister as identical twins.

After World War I, Hemingway began writing. However, he increasingly exhibited erratic and irritable moods and suffered from depression, which plagued him for the rest of his life. He became an alcoholic despite having serious liver problems and being advised by doctors that he could not drink. His life was a struggle with tragedies. At the end of all of this Hemingway ended his own life with a shotgun we can never truly understand why a person commits suicide.
