is San Francisco really that bad here to
discuss this question we got Bay area
native and upcoming comedian Kai vth yo
thanks for being here with us oh thanks
so much for having me I've been hearing
some San Francisco slander from you guys
uh no no are you defending San
Francisco's honor I will defend San
Francisco's honor yeah so here to tell
you're here to tell us the truth about
San Francisco from your perspective I'm
not saying I'm a San Francisco expert I
never say I'm an expert on the politics
I just say talk about what I see well to
be clear it's not about the politics I
don't really know that stuff as much but
I I could I've been there a lot because
I'm from there and uh you know I go back
visit my family all the time and uh it
seems overblown like you guys right
you're saying the apocalypse seems
overblown and this is actually the
number one post of the year on the Bay
Area Reddit is this beautiful bolic
video of uh I forgot what this hill is
called this is a very famous iconic
hippie Hill Hipp Francisco and this is
what it says I've heard San Francisco is
a terrible place to be and everybody is
afraid to leave their houses and then
they show like what appears to be the
best coolest like wholesome Woodstock
scene you've ever seen it's super normal
man like I mean there's definitely more
homeless people there's definitely like
some weird stuff and you can't you know
leave in your car CU it'll get stolen
and you know you'll get broken into so
so what is true about it that's true so
what's true so what is true come on K
you can't just say God so intense
I'm just saying because this person said
oh you post a video of a neighborhood
where the median income is $200,000 a
year and sfpd pledged to increase
patrols recently of hippie Hill and
you're saying this is not the tender
loiner off Market guys it just depends
on what neighborhood you're in so
address that
comment I didn't 100% understand all the
things you just said basically this
person was saying that hippie Hill where
this beautiful scene was that median
income in that specific part of SFS 200k
and the sfpd has pledged to protect it
yeah so it's not representative of the
whole picture yeah I mean it's
definitely not representative of the
whole picture the tenderloin is rough
I've heard like downtown is rough but I
think I think the argument is that the
tenderloin got even worse the tenderloin
was always rough I think it yeah I it I
heard I heard it's seeping into the S
District which is an area that I knew
people that moved to like tech people
had moved out of Soma because in the
past 10 years 8 years they felt like it
got worse
no doubt I think the crime and stuff and
like the lowlevel crime and homelessness
and stuff like that definitely is
getting worse don't get me wrong I just
like my friends who are from other
places like one of my friends from North
Carolina was like it's just like a
horrible dangerous place to be it's like
that's that's definitely not true not so
you're saying it's overblown but you
could see that in some pockets it's
getting there's elements of it that's
definitely bad like we didn't have to do
this thing where you hide everything
under the seats of your car when you
leave like that didn't used to be a
thing but now you can't have anything
out cuz cuz your wind you'll just come
back and your windows smash like that
does happen I mean there's people that
are pre- smashing their Windows just to
let people know that there's nothing in
the that's [ __ ] man that's some [ __ ]
you see on Tik Tok there's no way that
that's ridiculous it wasn't on Tik Tok
it was on Instagram reals news I don't
know see I don't know what do you mean
by pre- Smashing your windows people are
leaving broken glass around their window
I don't know how many people did I'm
just saying it got to that point where
some people thought this might be a
legit tactic I think if they're doing
that they're
idiots and we shouldn't and we shouldn't
take their opinion seriously to begin
with they're going to roll their window
down and sprinkle broken glass back
we're going to SF next week cuz all we
know is that homeless people really they
really put that logic together okay so
but I will say of the last year
obviously all the Bay Area posts are
about McDonald's worker in Oakland
walked off the job in a strike I cleaned
another dump site on the Coliseum Way in
Oakland uh no well a lot of Oakland
specifically is in the news because in
now closed down Denny's is closing down
yeah they're leaving Oakland I have
heard that small businesses have been
closing down because there's a lot more
break-ins and it's not being enforced as
not just small businesses in Oakland big
businesses are closing down in Oakland
sure like big chain businesses I mean
I'm I'm not an In-N-Out so I I don't
really know no I meant like uh like
Walmarts and type stuff like well you
know what I noticed man I I'll say this
a lot of stuff whether it's about La
whether it's about SF it's like it's
overblown but there's something to it I
think that that's the truth is that like
the media that has a certain political
agenda they can twist it but they can't
twist nothing there's certainly
something happening like I know Seattle
is much less safe than it used to be
sure downtown Seattle yes we never were
I never worried about gangs growing up
in Seattle I'm not saying there wasn't
petty crime like you said as a city but
like people running up on people with uh
like almost like some crazy Street Tales
that's a real reality in Seattle in 2024
that was not a reality I get I get what
you're saying and I don't disagree I
mean there's definitely an increase in
crime and stuff like that petty crimes
lowlevel stuff and it's definitely not
good like it's not good that people just
run into a CVS and like take it like
that's not that's not good that is
happening everywhere though all the big
cities sure all the but I I do think
I've heard it's happening more in San
Francisco because of enforcement but I'm
I'm not really familiar with that but
the thing that I think is like
interesting or the thing that's
neglected is like it's not violent most
of it it's not good but you don't feel
like super unsafe just walking around in
San Francisco and maybe tenderloin sure
tenderloin I felt unsafe even before
this stuff but like other other places
you just walk around it's just like a
normal City I see what you're saying
because people say the same things about
New York too you know you could look
people say that about New York like you
you talk to people from the Midwest
about New York they're like man you you
live in a dangerous city it's like
you're walking around like Lower
Manhattan it's fine there's well you
said you feel much safer in New York
than you did in Chicago for sure
absolutely I I mean you don't I I moved
to New York from Chicago and I haven't
heard a gunshot since right you're
saying that you used to hear active
gunfire all the time in Chicago yes yes
I mean all the time is is not exactly
but you'd hear it you definitely hear so
Kai what you're saying is compared to
Chicago San Francisco's not that bad
yeah that is 100% what I'm saying that's
my reference point is Chicago those are
the three C hey guys guys guys please
don't let the conversation of San
Francisco put it in the same Chicago
they're
different cuz you're saying you're
acknowledging that SF did get a little
worse totally totally okay yeah but it's
not as bad as people say yeah it's not
like the apocal well I mean like I have
some friends who are like really they
like watch Fox News and stuff they're
like that like conservative whatever and
I think the way Fox News is portraying
it is is like it's insane but I will say
if it's so easy and this is just a
question seeped into regular people but
so easy for the news and even like
social media and I'm not saying to ever
trust fully news and social media cuz
things are people Clips can be taken out
but I guess if it's the evidence on
these news and social media sites are so
overwhelmingly in the negative then
there obviously has to be truth to it
there's definitely truth to it I'm not
disagreeing with that I also think I
think the funny thing that I thought is
uh like people were com people were
complaining about the Bay Area being
like gentrified now like it's all tech
people and stuff like that techs and
Teslas techs and Teslas or whatever and
prices are going up and stuff prices
aren't going up as much right
now homeless people smash smash a window
maybe you can live in San Francisco too
even if you don't work that is true it
is depressing I guess the rising housing
cost if the housing prices are going up
and people want them to stay low or stay
stagnant or whatever it's like maybe
this is the way maybe we got to smash
some windows you're saying rent or buy
now because it's low I'm saying we got
to I think we should just walk down the
street with a crowbar and break
everything so then uh regular people can
live in San Francisco
again there bring it back to where it
was there's a logic to it but you know
different different sides of the coin
here let's move on to this meme I'm
going to drive a Tesla to express my
unique fny modern sense of style Bay
Area what's up with the Teslas bro and
the do people hate Elon do they love
Elon cuz they're sure buying a lot of
his cars um I think the buying of Teslas
has definitely dropped off since he like
laid off a bunch of people at Twitter
and stuff like that like I think people
people soured on Elon are people in the
Bay Area who are like less into Elon
Musk and Teslas and stuff do you think
they would move on to what Lucid air
some other luxury EV brands or are they
just buying like the electric BMWs and
lexuses or what are they like are they
still staying on EV right cuz they don't
want to pollute uh I don't think they
ever really didn't want to pollute I
think they just thought it was cool like
fashionable okay I don't think those
people really care about pollution that
much like they should just have a fewer
one fewer kid what do you think about
the tech layoffs Tech layoff big Tech
had massive layoffs I want to say up to
some companies even 10% of their
Workforce yeah I mean I don't I'm not
well equipped to talk about that I did
want to say on the car thing though uh
the cool thing now is there's all these
self-driving cars like not like a Tesla
self-driving cars but there's like these
like self-driving taxi cars are just
driving around San Francisco right you
can get picked up by nobody in an Uber
that has no driver like the literally
the steering wheel is moving
independently it's crazy they have like
the cameras rotating on top and stuff
they're I don't think like consumer cars
but you can take an Uber or a whatever
AO let me ask you what your prediction
is sure do you think how many years do
you think it'll take for the Bay Area to
or let's just say SF yeah to bounce back
will it bounce back to what it was maybe
12 years ago 10 years ago or is it just
is it a dystopian future because right
now there's so many photos and even the
socks at Target are clamped up in the
cages now even the socks are caged up
deodorants caged up but on the other end
you have a wh with like 6 7500 liar
scanners on the top being the most
advanced robot taxis you're saying we're
going to get to I my prediction is we
get to a point where we have cars with
no drivers and we have no
socks and then what SF bounces back or
what I don't know man that's like that's
all politics and stuff right it depends
on who gets elected and things like that
like I don't know like I feel like it's
just
fine all right so
SF SF is fine that's your
takeway itar super bullish on it man
what's your prediction you think it's
going or you I think it will start to I
I feel like from what I understand about
the politics they're starting to speak
more uh strict now and that they're
going to start making CH but change I
think it's a pendulum right it's like
they the reason that they weren't
enforcing this stuff as to my very very
limited understanding the reason why
they weren't enforcing it was because
they felt like they were like over
Prosecuting people right like someone
would steal like a candy bar and then
they'd spend a year in jail and that's
not helpful I think that's the problem
they were trying to solve and then they
like maybe overcorrected or whatever now
they let them steal a 100 now you can
just steal a bunch of [ __ ] and people
are just doing it like deliberately now
but I think it'll yeah I mean it'll just
keep adjusting right I I think it's uh
10 years away honestly I think things
take that long and I think to build more
housing affordable housing and to 10
years ago like you're saying to get back
to where it was 10 12 years ago but I
think it was fine like 5 years ago right
like it's 2024 now in 2019 no I meant I
think this is just my random opinion I
have no guys I have like no basis to say
this I just think it's going to be 10
years until it to reach what it
was dude years ago I think in 10 years
they'll be a VR headset that'll make us
not care about any of this right it's
going to look different cuz you're
saying the world could be burning in
your front lawn but as long as you're
protected by bulletproof class and you
got GPT came out this year that or last
year like that that's like such a big
change I feel like in 10 years like what
are we going to care about what products
are locked up at a CVS okay okay I got
it I got it I got it there's going to be
build nice buildings in within 10 years
it's going but certain parts of downtown
are going to be fenced off like when all
the world leaders come Children of Men
or something and then everybody's going
to have Vision Pro on do living their
life within this cage in San Francisco
to make the cage seem more expensive so
it's going to be like a 30 Block cage
that's protected but within that 30
Block it's going to be like a Utopia but
a lot of it's going to be because of
Vision Pro no no no inside the Utopia
it'll be like Demolition Man which was
an old Sylvester Stallone movie you
probably didn't watch it but outside
Andrew it's going to be like Judge Dread
land so inside is Demolition Man pop up
the photo outside is Judge Dread I'll be
completely honest I think of that that
happened I just moved back to
Chicago all right you guys let us know
what you think of the future of the Bay
Area in the comment section below a lot
of different Dynamics going on obviously
the tech is still there even though some
of the tech has left and become work
from home all this stuff is happening in
Oakland is it overblown is it not
overblown is it the media with an agenda
and an election year or is it real sound
like Bill bur yeah you heard you heard
what Kai thinks he thinks it's all good
I don't know kai kai I need to see you
