We Drove 1500 Miles to Snowboard Here

Winter storm warning now in effect until 5 a.m. Mount Sander time Sunday. Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulation 10 to 20 inches. Safety tips. Stay indoors during the storm. What's up everyone. Today is our first day of snowboarding in New Mexico. We're at a resort called Angel Fire and it's been snowing here for like the last day and a half. We're up riding with our buddy Aaron from Downslope Mobile. He's got a business up here so I'd like to hang out with him, see all the spots and check out snowboarding in New Mexico for the first time. You're gonna cut down and then a fast turn to the right. It's pretty mellow. Thank you Sean for spotting me. Yes sir. There's more too. There's more. That was quite the snow. That's my warm up every morning. That was fun. We're riding with Aaron today. What up. And the only reason we came to New Mexico was because of Aaron. I told him, I was like, you know the snow out here is good. Not a lot of people. It's just a great time. If you've never been to Angel Fire, we've got like one of the longest chairlifts and it's a super family friendly resort. So all the runs here are super mellow but just such a good time and we hit it at a good time too. I've got these guys waxed up. They're cruising. Waxed up. First time snowboarding in New Mexico. Let's go. But just know, you're landing in powder moguls. So like good chance you're gonna just nose deep real quick. It won't hurt. You might explode. It does happen a lot. Alright, sick. The landing is a little sketch. Dude, he freaking like launched it into the oblivion. What's the key for getting clips down? What's one thing you're always thinking about? I'd say like any trick in snowboarding is confidence. Because what I've seen a lot of people do when they mess up on backflips is they uncommit halfway through. Because like you really gotta find your landing immediately. And I've seen a lot of people go for it, pull their head up, stop the rotation. So like I'd say my thing, I learned them very barrel roll and it helped me to just like instantly, just first thing to do, spot where I'm gonna land. Commit and spot. Your body comes around for you. If your head's there, the body rotates around it. The second you pull your head up, it stops your rotation. Wow. Just confidence, man. If you can do it on a trampoline, you can do it on the snow. Oh my god! I actually over rotated a bit. Oh no way. I didn't need that much speed. All the different tracks on like the mountain bike trails are like maybe my favorite thing. Just like pumping and rolling through there. The whole vibe of this place is just quiet, peaceful. No lines. A little bit of light drop. So like it's cool if you wanna do like a little 270. It's all flat, but it's all powder right there. So you just went in and... Honestly, you should follow our tracks. Alright, let's do that. You wanna go first? Yeah, you go first. I'll follow you, bro. I just can't. This gummy stone. This thing's been used quite a bit. Just all the rust here on the edges, I'm just gonna clean it up with this. I'm not trying to like hit the edge like this because then I'll detune the edge. I'm just trying to keep it flat. You can just get like a piece of sandpaper. This is a 220 grit sandpaper. I'm just gonna run it up and down on this thing. And it's cleaning off the backside. That looks nice and sharp. So it's really important that we get some good wax on the edges because that's where it's gonna go the quickest. You push it forward like this. You know, you're really kinda just getting it deep. You just wanna look glossy. Board is ready. There we go. Nice and cool down now so we get to scraping. If you're not doing a sharp scraper, it's just making your work so much harder. You can get away with not buffing your board as long as you scrape it really well. But you should buff your board, you know. Totally. This is better than new. Wow. I don't even wanna touch it. It looks so good. Yeah, when you touch it, you leave your oils all over the place. Don't touch it. Don't even look at it. Don't even look. That's it. Looking good, guys. Ready for India.
