Hallo Hallo
The Netherlands is known to be one of the happiest country in the world
According to World Happiest Country Report 2022
The Netherlands is ranked fifth in the world
So is working in the Netherlands also a happy thing to do?
Today I want to share with you
How to find a job in the Netherlands?
I believe this video will
help you on your way to finding a job
I will also share my personal experience
at the end of this video
How I found a job in the Netherlands over the years
I am Little Cloud
I'm here to share my knowledge in daily life, personal experiences, growth and learning
and tips integrating into foreign country life on a weekly basis
In recent years it has become easier
for expats to find jobs in the Netherlands
If you speak fluent English
You definitely stand a chance to find a job in the Netherlands
Especially in the year after the epidemic
If you are one of the best in these sectors
Your chances of getting a job are even better
These sectors include
Aviation, IT - especially software engineers
Finance, Health Care
These sectors are very popular in the Netherlands right now
To work in the Netherlands
You must first have a legal residence and work visa
You can find out through the IND website
What kind of residence and work visa you are eligible for
How can we find a job in the Netherlands?
The first point is actually known to everyone
But very few people do it
It's about updating your CV according to Dutch standards
I'm sure you've heard of the Dutch directness
The Dutch have the same requirements for CVs
They don't like to read too long CVs
CVs are usually no longer than two pages
So you should only put
the key points and essential things on your CV
For example
the city you live in
relevant work experience
academic qualifications, diplomas, etc
Another important point is
whether you have a legal residence and work visa
You can put this in the header
Because HR will generally give priority to candidates
who do not need a visa
Secondly, there are many recruitment agencies in the Netherlands
They can help us find a job
For example, IamExpat Expatica
EnglishJobSearch Linkedin, etc
If you are looking for a job in the non-profit sector
you can consider using
Partos UnitedNation OneWorld, etc
If you are an entrepreneur
then you can use Startup Amsterdam
There are people from all sectors
and also opportunities for funding
Amsterdam has a large concentration of international companies
There are also many expatriates employed
These international companies generally
don't require us to speak Dutch
As long as we can speak English fluently
We have the opportunity to work there
like Booking.com, Netflix, Uber
ING Philips Heineken, etc
But what I want to say here is
Amsterdam is definitely not the only city in the Netherlands
that hires expats
When we are looking for a job
We can broaden our scope of cities
Consider other cities
For example, Eindhoven
It's a city with technology sector
Utrecht
It is a city with a focus on scientific research
and the gaming industry
Rotterdam
It is a city of life sciences, health care
the medical sector
So when we are looking for a job
Don't just consider Amsterdam
This will give us more options
Once we have applied for a job
The next step is the opportunity for an interview
We fail at a job interview
Most of the time is not because of
Our education, professional qualifications
work experience or
the fact that we don't speak Dutch
but during the interview
We didn't express ourselves well
Most employers in the Netherlands
are very concerned about our communication skills
especially when we speak in English.
They are very concerned about
whether we can express ourselves clearly
and whether they can understand
what we're trying to say
Of course if you speak fluent Dutch
That's the best thing
This is a BIG PLUS
One thing you should be aware of when interviewing in NL
There are some questions
that we wouldn't be asked in our own country
But in the Netherlands
We are often asked such questions
For example
Why are we coming to the Netherlands?
How long do we plan to stay in this country?
Why are we interested in working in the Netherlands?
These questions may seem very simple
But they need to be answered with skill
Let me give you an example
Some of my friends come to the Netherlands
because their husband or wife
When the interviewer asks us
Why did we come to the Netherlands?
If we tell him straight away
We are here because of our partner
He will think that we are forced to come
rather than our own will
When the interviewer asks us this question
On one hand he is curious about our current situation
On the other hand he wants to ensure
whether we have the ability to think independently
So when we get a question like this
we must think about it from our own point of view
why we came to this country
It's not due to a thing or a person
Another question we get asked a lot is
how long we will be staying in the country
If we tell the interviewer
We don't know
Maybe a few months, maybe a few years
It depends on the situation
This answer will not help us in the interview
It makes them think we'll leave anytime
If their company hires us
It won't do their company any good
These questions may seem very simple
but we need to think carefully about how to answer them
before we go to an interview
If you are not confident in your interview
or if you are having trouble finding a job
I recommend the website Empower Amsterdam
there are 3-5 free one-on-one
coaching sessions with a mentor
During the coaching sessions
They will guide you
How to deal with each and every interview
How to build your confidence
How to express yourself well during the interview
In addition to this
They will also teach you
How to overcome the negative energy when you failed a job interview
They will also help you with your CV
After 3-5 sessions of free coaching
whether you want to continue with their paid services
It's up to you
So I would highly recommend it to anyone
If you are experiencing difficulties in this area
you can seek their help
But... but...
There are some conditions
for receiving free one-to-one coaching
Firstly, you must live in the Netherlands
Secondly, you are currently unemployed
and have a valid work visa
Thirdly, you have to pay a one-off registration fee of €20
If you meet these three conditions
then you are eligible for their free coaching programme
Some of my friends who live abroad have asked me
whether he should come to the NL on a tourist visa
and then look for a job
or should he find a job first before come to the NL?
It depends on your budget
If you have a budget
can cover all your expenses in the Netherlands for 6 to 12 months
then it is not a problem for you
to come to the Netherlands first and then find a job
But my personal advice is
you find a job first and then come to the Netherlands
because your future employer can sponsor your visa
This also gives you the opportunity to apply for a highly skilled migrant visa
On the IND website you can find a range of
companies that can sponsor highly skilled immigrant visa
Having a highly skilled immigrant visa means that
you are employed as a foreign talent in the Netherlands
and the minimum salary is
3,549 Euros per month for those under 30 years of age
4,840 Euros per month over 30 years of age
This is much higher than the Dutch min. salary of €1,701
And you will also get a tax credit of 30% Ruling
30% Ruling means that
up to 30% of your salary that would otherwise be taxable
will be tax free
Next I will share with you my personal experience
How I found a job in the Netherlands over the years
To be honest, finding a job through a recruitment agency
This method is not suitable for me
Because often recruitment agencies want to earn a commission
they would give me companies profiles no matter suit me or not
and expect me to go for an interview
I don't like this approach
So I choose not to use them
And the way I find jobs is
through the DNB Business Directory website
at here I would select my sector
and then it will list out
companies in the Netherlands that are related to this sector
From this list
I will look for companies that I am interested in
Of course I will also see
a lot of companies that I don't know at all
At this point I would Google them and do my homework
When I have chosen companies that I am interested in
Whether they have openings or not
I would send my CV to their HR
Now with LinkedIn, it's even easier
Many companies post their vacancies on LinkedIn
We can send our CVs directly
to their HR
What you may not know
Most companies welcome our CV's
because it saves them money
They don't have to pay the recruiting company
After I have submitted my CV
Whether my CV is selected or not
I will usually be notified by email
If my CV is selected
I will read through
the company's annual report before the interview
to see how they have grown over the years
and what their future plans are
I would also look at their cash flow and earnings
then write down any questions I'm curious about
At the interview
When I'm asked if I know anything about the company
I would then express my pre-done homework
and the questions I'm curious about
And because we've prepared well in advance
we make good first impression at the interview
So before you go to an interview
It's important to know about the company
This approach worked for me
Maybe it will work for you too
If you're struggling to get a job
You may try this method
If you fail you have nothing to lose
But if you succeed, it's a Big Bonus!
Finding a job in the Netherlands
It's not easy, it's not difficult
The key is to keep trying and persevere
The other thing is to keep improving your skills
It will open up more job opportunities for you
I hope this video
will help you find a job that you want
I wish you all the best of luck
