Today we are going to talk about
the top 3 reasons -
Why fresh graduates
do not get hired in the Netherlands.
If you are an international student
thinking about working in the Netherlands,
be sure to watch this video.
To learn how to deal with these challenges.
Hey everyone, I am Little Cloud.
I'm sure many of you came to study here
not only for a university degree,
right?
I believe many of you want to stay here
after the graduation
and find a suitable job.
Some even hope to apply for
EU permanent resident permit.
It's without having to give up our citizenship
but still have the opportunity to live in
any country within European Union.
That gives us another option.
I've done a couple of videos before this
about the current job market in the Netherlands.
However, I realized that
even if I tell these international students,
it's a lot less difficult than they think
to find a job in the Netherlands,
they are still very anxious.
They always worry they won't be able to find a job.
Therefore, we'll talk about it in more detail.
The reason why the Netherlands attracts
a lot of international students
is due to
the unversity tuition fees here.
University fees in the Netherlands
are relatively cheap.
However, this also means that
the job market for university graduates
are quite competitive.
You'll be competing with
talented candidates from all over the world.
Besides that, EU students don't need
to apply for an additional work visa
after completing their studies in the Netherlands.
They can straight away apply for a job
or work full-time right after they graduate.
Furthermore,
The Netherlands itself
also has its own local university graduates.
This makes the competition for international students.
And there's also the language barrier.
Although the Netherlands is a multilingual country,
but Dutch still plays
an important role in the workplace.
Many jobs require
good Dutch communication skills.
Even though many companies don't really care
whether you speak Dutch or not,
but when two resumes
with the same degree,
they both have the similar experience,
but one speaks English and Dutch
and the other one speaks only English,
let me ask you,
which resume do you think the boss will choose?
Don't be surprised,
there are a lot of people here,
who have the similar resume as you,
where the education and experience are almost the same.
That's why I emphasize every time,
if you want to have an easy life in the NL
and have more options during your job search,
you must learn to speak Dutch.
It's very important to be able to communicate in Dutch here.
Speaking Dutch will take you a long way
and it's also easier to get around.
The last and I think the biggest obstacle
is that the issue of work permit and visa.
Although int. students have something called
Orientation Year for Graduates.
It allows international students to continue
to look for a job in the Netherlands
up to a year.
However, after this year is over,
if they want to stay and work here,
the employer has to apply for a work permit
at the Dutch Immigration Office (IND),
to prove the reasons they hire you are valid.
Therefore,
when you apply for a work permit
or a resident permit,
you will need to include multiple documents.
This includes
job offer,
employer's registration information,
etc.
This whole process may involve
some complex legal procedures,
documentation and
consideration of the statutory wage scale regulation.
Such as,
if you are in your Search Year
and you found a job that can provide you
with the Highly Skilled Migrant Visa,
then I think you're pretty lucky.
It's because you'll be eligible for a
pre-tax salary of €2,631.
If you didn't find it,
then after your Search Year visa expires
and you look for a job in the Netherlands again,
if you are under 30 years old,
then your salary scale will be
€3,672 per month before tax.
If you're over 30,
it'll be €5,008 per month before taxes or more.
This has caused some companies stop hiring
because of these salary regulations.
This also makes it harder for international university graduates to find a job.
How can international students in the Netherlands
to stand out in the job search and
to increase their chances of being accepted by a company?
How can we make our CVs more attractive?
I think the first thing is
to enhance your language skills.
This is not only English.
It also includes Dutch.
Speaking Dutch
will help you to work better with colleagues.
It's also increase your chances of getting hired.
Many people say it's too hard to learn a new language.
They don't have time, etc.
That's a lot of excuses.
However, here I want to tell you,
if you don't have time,
At here,
The second thing is to create a personal brand.
By building a personal brand,
it means to show your professional background,
skills
and experience.
This includes sharing academic achievements,
internships,
volunteer work,
and so on.
All of these things can build your professional image.
As I said before,
in the Netherlands,
the experience is more important than
a college degree.
Life here is very realistic.
As long as you can be an Asset to a company,
you can solve their problems
instead of creating problems,
you can bring the organisation what they want,
in term of skills,
experience and
competencies,
then your chances of getting hired are very
very high.
The last point is to
knowing the trends in your industry.
To keep track of the latest trends and developments in your fields and
to demonstrate your passion and expertise in the industry.
You must also know about
the company's financial statements.
As it will give you an idea of the company's
present and future of the company.
During the interview,
you can ask the interviewer
with questions about the company's
development and future of the company.
This way you'll also show your confidence,
positive attitude
and your ability to think independently.
Therefore, during the interview,
don't be afraid to ask questions.
All these can make your future boss
be impressed.
Well,
judging by the current job market in the NL,
no matter you are a new international student
or you are about to graduate,
It may not be a perfect match for your field of study,
but finding a job in the Netherlands
is definitely,
definitely easier than you think.
Recently, many of my friends have told me
their companies are hiring
but they just can't get anyone.
The number of resumes received is so low
till he has doubt on it.
I personally think the biggest reason
why many interviews are unsuccessful is due to
What I said here is
and not
Therefore, keep improving your skills
and attend more courses or trainings
related to your field
can enhance your competitiveness here.
It can also help you grow.
Well,
That's all for today.
Thank you for watching.
If you want to know more
about the approximate cost
of studying in the Netherlands,
you can refer to this video.
I am Little Cloud.
See you next time.
Bye bye...
