What an insane transformation this tiny 32 SQ FT space within my home is turning into! I started last week by ripping out the cabinetry and installing a built in desk using wood flooring. This week we are finishing up the wood paneling, adding a fun detail to the ceiling, DIYing a few elements and styling this space to perfection!
T H A N K Y O U Thanks so much for watching and I hope you enjoyed. Leave any future video ideas you would like to see in the comments below and don't forget to subscribe!
over the past year here on Lone Fox we
have been transforming and restoring my
1929 Spanish style home bringing it back
to its roots and really adding that
character back this is the room we're
working on next my little office space
that was previously a small closet area
that I just never really used so we
started by demoing it out patching the
floor where the Cabinetry used to be
finding this incredible oak flooring
that we're actually going to use as wood
wall paneling and creating a desk where
the Cabinetry was continuing around the
room with this stunning warm oak wood
and in today's video we're tying it all
together and let me tell you it's pretty
incredible hello welcome to part two of
The Office makeover this is the final
part now if you've not watched part one
I kind of just recapped it a little bit
but it will also be linked in the
description box below if you want to
check it out because we are continuing
on from where we left off it really is
looking so good so far and so I just
can't even imagine like once we get all
the wood paneling on and some of the
decor elements in and kind of just
adding some more color and some more
brightness and even just a light fixture
all the elements I'm very excited
excited about but something else I'm
very excited about is today's video is
kindly sponsored by Helix and if you've
been watching my channel for a while
I've actually been a helix partner for
many years now I absolutely love adore
standby and will only and always use
Helix mattresses when it comes to any
design project or even myself like I
have a helix mattress Marie does my
parents have a helix mattress my aunt
everyone in my family essentially has a
helix mattress and whenever I actually
do a new makeover I do a makeover and
there is a mattress needed you know
where I'm going because Helix really
makes the process of ordering a mattress
so convenient and also customized at the
same time they have a sleep quiz that
you can take online where you input
things about yourself including your
body style your sleep preferences or
just a couple of questions and then it
will pair you up with a mattress that's
perfectly suited for you and the most
incredible part about all of this is it
is shipped to your doorstep in a box so
you don't have to go out and pick it up
it's conveniently shipped to your
doorstep you can just kind of drag it on
into your space unroll it and your
mattress puffs up into the most
luxurious comfortable bed of your life I
totally and completely get that
purchasing a mattress is an investment
so the great thing about Helix is they
have flexible financing options if
that's something that you want to go
towards but they also have a 100 night
sleep trial so you can have the mattress
shipped to you you can try it out and if
you just are not satisfied with it you
can return it in 100 days and they'll
come and pick it up from your home that
way you have a little bit more peace of
mind without being able to try before
you buy when it comes to a helix
mattress but I will tell you right now
you are going to absolutely love it by
clicking the link at the top of my
description box below or heading to
Helix sleep.com drewscott you can get
20% off your next Helix mattress plus
two free pillows just take the Sleep
quiz I swear you're going to love it
it'll pair you up with a mattress ship
to your doorstep super convenient and
easy mine is perfection I love it so
much but we have an office to get to
make it over so let me change and let's
get to making it
over
hung guard yeah lots of shims in here
these are vintage shims look at this
ancient chunk of
plaster something kind of interesting is
that this doorway has always been super
crooked um so we actually added a few
shims before adding in our wood that way
we can even it out then all the wood
that comes down is going to meet up with
this new line here and then we're also
going to have wood that frames out the
inner doorway like this so it's all
going to be really nice and clean once
it's all kind of attached together so as
you may recall this used to have a door
on it then it got removed and I just
don't love having a door here and I
asked you guys' thoughts on what I
should do in the last video the number
one comment was adding a secret door
here and paneling over the top of it
however I realized in the end since this
is my bathroom in my office I really
just like it being open and flowing from
one room to the
next wow wow wow that was actually very
impressive
carpentry out of the slots over the top
of the doorway up to the ceiling and do
keep in mind I'm still doing a door trim
and a crown molding so it doesn't have
to be perfect I then grabbed my circular
sander to start sanding down those
builtins and
[Music]
window I'm going to stain this window
hopefully it's going to look good I got
this stain and poly in one step by
Minwax in the color Mission Oak which
hopefully I think is going to be
somewhat of a little bit of a darker
tone than this we're going to see how
this looks on the window that's a
gorgeous
color that's a gorgeous Mission
[Music]
Oak just want to give you an update on
what I have worked on today so I went
ahead stripped the rest of the window
got that stained and it's looking pretty
good so far it's kind of hard to see cuz
it's back lit but then down under this
built-in I was kind of mentioning how
this is dead space essentially like if I
don't have anything here I'm not going
to put anything here it's just going to
be kind of an open area so what I
decided to do was actually cut down some
of our wood panels and put them around
here at 13 in high that way we can add a
shelf across here and I'm going to add
the Shelf with the same wood literally
create the Shelf out of some long planks
I'm then going to be paneling over the
top of that as well paneling all right
here and then I think I'm going to be
painting this original
built-in let's see if this
fits yeah cool do we have the groove on
the tongue and groove be in the
front added in the last one and this is
going to be the most satisfying
tap that couldn't fit
better then we'll just stain the front
edge to match and it has this little
kind of endent detail which is
fun this is one of our last walls here
and it was definitely the trickiest
because the window and the outlets and
also the built-in was on this wall so we
had to kind of custom cut every single
piece but we were able to use our
smaller pieces which was
nice here we are on the home stretch of
adding the paneling to the walls we were
able to use a bunch of our shorter
pieces and just cut them all to length
to meet the top of the window and the
[Music]
ceiling we're going to test a few stain
options for our trim pieces that we
picked up yesterday at Anderson trim
which is a really great store in Los
Angeles for trim brought a few of our
offcuts down so that we can kind of
match the wood that's already on the
wall and hopefully we can do that it's
going to be a little challenging I think
but we'll make it
work
so we added a little of Ash Gray on it
kind of has coolness more of this tone
oh look at that look at that it's about
as good that's pretty good poly Shades
in the color Mission Oak and then adding
a little bit of Rubio mono coat this is
just a sample and the color Ash
Gray give it a bit of a cool
down
I feel like this one right here kind of
shows you a good example of how the Ash
Gray just cools it down cuz it kind of
goes on pretty warm and then we kind of
cool it down to this middle tone but
it's still warm it's still really pretty
and it's going to match the wood in the
[Music]
office oh my gosh it looks so good it's
like the perfect color if you can see
what I was looking at right
now it's just a stunning
sight I'm a mill worker Justin I would
like you to come and take a look at
this look at this mill
[Music]
work okay it's even better than I
expected
right never underestimate the finishing
trim on your pieces because they bring
it all together it hides any
imperfections any of the edges you don't
want shown and you can kind of see the
cased Oak opening here that leads into
the bathroom and from the bathroom view
as well it is so beautiful how do you
feel it looks so good I'm obsessed I
feel like I have not really done too
many like camera check-ins because we've
just been working away on this office
and it's really turning out so much
better than I could have expected today
we are doing the trim so I already
started doing the door trim and the next
thing that we are going to be doing is
actually kind of a fun little addition
to the space because I decided to not do
the wood on the ceiling actually I think
it's just going to make it feel too dark
however I thought why not add some
wallpaper to the ceiling to still give
it like a little bit of something the
wallpaper is right here I actually got
this on Amazon believe it or not I
needed something quick because the idea
just kind of popped in my head this one
here is a light gray color way of the
wallpaper and blue I think is also super
pretty but I don't know like I mean it's
so pretty when I see in the viewfinder
right now the color really is so pretty
in here it's going to be on the ceiling
too and this is when I get to tell you
guys that this was actually on Friday
and we only ordered one roll of this so
it definitely was not enough to cover
the ceiling I don't know why I thought
it was I think we're going to have
enough so this didn't really go as
planned
I thought I'd spend the morning getting
that patchwood floor nice and stained so
I started off by getting a rag with
water and cleaning this off it's kind of
multi-purpose cuz we're cleaning it but
it also opens up the pore of the wood so
if you are staining wood floors darker
you always want to go with a rinse of
water first open up the pores of the
wood and then go in with your stain that
way it accepts the full pigment and
that's exactly what I did here and I did
two coats of it we just finished sanding
down all of the drawers and we also
finished sanding down the original
built-in we s did this down and once we
got to the grain I saw how pretty it was
it's almost like this Pine and I just
decided that we'd leave a little bit of
the paint on in some areas kind of make
it imperfect it also allows us to leave
it in some of the cracks that were super
hard to get out but something about this
like built-in now just feels so perfect
in this little space it has a different
wood tone than this but we actually
added all the wood paneling really nice
and clean around it and if you've ever
seen those really cute little skirts
that you can add under like a pedestal
sink sometimes people do them in a
kitchen or around a table I'm going to
add a little skirt curtain here add a
little color it'll add a little fabric
break up the wood a little bit I just
love the way that this looks all of our
drawers fit perfectly I'm going to put
SD cards and like my CF cards and my
little cords and cables in these drawers
so I'm happy we kept this original
builtin let's make this window blend a
little bit more in now this is a vinyl
window so of course it's not made of
wood it doesn't really blend in with the
current aesthetic so I'm going in
firstly with the bin primer and I'm
giving it a spray of the primer this is
just going to allow our next spray paint
color which is this one here this is the
color nutmeg by rum and I used a satin
finish on this and I just gave two even
coats of this over the top of the window
once I removed the masking I was
actually really surprised with how
perfect of a color this looked and the
top piece of trim is also going to be
covered by our Roman shade that's why
it's not fully
[Music]
stripped it is now night time I turned
on a little portable this is thing is
great if you guys don't have one of
these I got this for Christmas and the
thing I like is all my stuff is from
Ryobi so I can just pop all the
batteries in the different things I
ended up ordering two packs of floating
shelves and I'm going to be putting them
across the top of the desk here and then
wrapping them in the same wood so I
didn't really need the shelves to be
pretty I just needed them to be
substantial and also affordable because
they're not going to be seen so I'll
link the ones I use below but it
essentially came with three of this size
they're like 16 in
and three will be perfect to go all the
way across this entire area I feel like
that's like a nice
height I use my laser level to get the
perfect straight line I highly suggest
this if you hang up any pictures or you
know shelves or anything like that this
is a great tool to have I mounted the
two brackets on either side cuz I
decided just to use two shelves as they
were super strong already okay I cut
some boards down to the width
of our shelf's going to go and I like
when they're kind of a little pressure
fit in
there I'm not going to lie here the last
thing I wanted to do was miter on a
circular saw the length of these shelves
four times so I decided to use the
groove on the front as little detail and
then just fill it in this is holding it
as it glues a bit but as you can see we
have a pretty structurally sound shelf
in salt now I do have to stain just this
front edge that's why it looks kind of
darker than everything it'll be this
color of course once it stained to match
probably do that
[Music]
[Music]
tomorrow for baseboards I opted for
something super simple I didn't want to
add too much height to the bottom here I
didn't want it to feel different from
from the bedroom or the bathroom when I
add baseboard so I kept it super simple
and just did kind of like a quarter
round inverted
baseboard I also added a Roman shade
that I ordered from two pages you guys
know I love my two pages curtains they
actually have these on Amazon I will
link below the Swatch book if you want
to get like all the swatches that way
you can check in your space to see which
color and then also the listing as well
I think today's the day we're going to
finish up the office um I have just a
few things to kind of tie up in here
morning I headed out to the fabric store
and I got there and realized it was
closed so I actually had to go to
Joann's but I got some really good
fabric at Joann's two different options
I figured I can use the other one
somewhere else what we're going to work
on now is kind of creating a skirt or a
curtain that just kind of hangs here and
that's going to hide what's behind here
so I loved this one actually it felt
really Lux and like cool for Joann's you
know um it's silky and I honestly like
that is such a Vibe it feels almost like
men's tie fabric a little softer kind of
more tonal as
well we do need to install the rod first
anyways so let's get that in I just
picked up one of these Cafe rods they're
from Lowe's it cost like $6 for one of
these and I also noticed in the store I
was able to take the little end caps off
they just kind of pulled off which is
great because I have this idea drilling
a hole in either side of this little
section that kind of Pops down it's just
a little element of this it seems too
good to be true is like the issue I'm
having with it because how does this
just fit perfectly I'm going to use a
large drill bit like this one to create
the
[Music]
holes this is going to be
perfect look at
that I'm to drape the fabric over just
to kind of get an idea I do want to give
them like a few kind of roues and
complete so I'm kind of thinking it's
going to be oh my gosh even just draping
it on like that is so cute should I just
make a pocket at the top I don't think I
need Rings let's try the other
one yeah I don't know I just like the
red one more don't you guys think I'm
just going to create a pocket just fold
it over create like an inch pocket at
the top we can slip it on the rod and
then just hem the bottom and we'll be
[Music]
good for each of these little curtain
panels I'm actually leaving it to be the
exact width of the fabric that came on
the bolt that way it can kind of be
bunched up once there's two of them so
on the top here I just folded it over
about an inch and a half and then sewed
a just straight line across that way it
had enough space for the rod to go
through I then measured down 27 in which
just happens to be the length of how
tall I wanted mine I added an additional
inch on that way I can fold it over I
always find adding an inch on these kind
of like slinkier silkier Fabrics is a
lot nicer than just a/2 in because
they're really slippery and kind of hard
to work with sometimes so I sewed the
Hem along the bottom repeated the steps
and went to install I tested out our
first one and put it in and this is what
it's looking like but let's add the
second one just to kind of see the full
Vibe I'm hoping this one I sewed pretty
similarly I am Shook at how good this
looks look at that you guys look how
good I do need to give it like a little
steam of course because the Fabric's
been folded up all day this doesn't look
better and then like need to access your
shelves just kind of open it they slide
pretty far open even if you just want to
kind of like pull it up you know and
just kind of check it's just a way to
hide without having to create doors or
anything and it's also really cute it
adds like a little bit of fabric and
texture I ordered some turned Pine knobs
that just kind of feel like they could
be original with the piece on Amazon so
I'll link those for you guys and I love
the way that they look they just really
finish this off and make it feel fully
original I really touched on the ceiling
yesterday but clearly we did not have
enough wallpaper to do this we actually
had a strip that went in the center as
well but I went to order it because I
really want to get this up on Sunday for
you guys it is Saturday right now and I
am pushing so we headed to Lowe's and I
actually ended up finding this really
pretty kind of faux grasscloth looking
wallpaper which I love and I think I'm
going to apply this to the ceiling for
now and I can always change it up if I
feel like I want to add like more of a
visual pop or something and I think that
can also come with due time of my room
being done please don't look she is a
mess at the moment but I'm going to get
this up on the ceiling so that we can
hang up our light and add the crown
molding all the actual like hard
finishes in the space are going to be
complete and we can start styling okay
so I've never wallpaper to sealing
before and it is a little bit tricky
however if you cut your strips in the
orientation of the room that's shortest
so if you guys remember before we did
the birds kind of longer it made it a
bit harder cuz you have all that weight
dragging you down um as the extra if you
do the shorter side of the room if you
happen to have that option like I am
doing here it really made it a lot
easier so that's a little trick if you
go to do the ceiling just keep that in
mind and I added four panels across did
it myself really wasn't too bad at all
only thing is just like the ceiling's
high up so getting up there is kind of a
little bit of a challenge but once
you're up there you're good and then I
did measure our crown molding pieces
which we had previously stained and I
cut them mitered them and installed them
all the little details of this room have
been taking me a while we just got got
the crown molding up and I am going to
hang the light in this room I actually
don't know if I shared this when I got
the light for the other office the one
that's like the larger one that I'm
going to be converting because I bought
these at the same time he actually gave
me a discount if I purchased two lights
so I got this one cuz I loved it and it
is a
1940s French chandelier it has tassels
on it and when I saw this one and the
price point that it was mixed with the
discount on the other one it was just
too good not to pass up and I've had
this one saved for probably like four or
5 months now downstairs and I think it's
just perfect for this room I love the
idea of like a little chandelier
something a bit more fun than a flush
mount and we have the space so why not
utilize
it now we can give it a
test
yay we have
[Music]
light
it is currently Sunday 1:16 p.m. and I
am just getting to styling this room so
when this video goes up you guys are
going to see how back to back this is
I've been editing all morning since 7:00
a.m. I have wood stained in my
fingernails if you are curious finished
all the hard finishes yesterday so we
are going to do just some quick styling
cuz I feel like an office space kind of
grows with you like after you start
working in it for a little bit you kind
of realize what you want in there what
you need what you reach for and grab for
often so I'm just going to add a couple
of touches that I've kind of been
collecting for the space and I think
it's just going to tie it together bring
some colors in and then I'm going to do
a reveal and I will say that the reveal
of this room is a little challenging
just because there's not that pretty of
a bathroom on one side and then my
bedroom on the opposite side I haven't
done either so it's kind of like
sandwiched between two undone spaces but
let's get into styling I also totally
forgot to order an outlet for this like
a brown one with a cover and then a
light switch of brown one so I already
did but they're not going to be here
till later so I'm going to put a little
piece of art over this one just so it's
not like an eyesore in in the I like the
dark wood frame with like the white mat
and it's just a really pretty oil
painting on a recent flea market trip I
actually found this cute little
container it's like an art deco silver
Chrome style container but I thought
it'd be perfect for little SD cards or
just like little tiny things I want to
keep coralled in here so I got that but
I thought these can just kind of be cute
at the moment and over on this side I
want to put some of my favorite books
that I love to look at uh just kind of
reference and I find myself reaching for
often this marble candle from
tone it's kind of pretty something I had
to do last night was check and see if
this vintage rug from my old breakfast
nook fit in here and look how perfectly
it fits just side to side it fits so
perfectly I knew I wanted something
underneath this chair because rolling
chairs really do damage hardwood floor
quite a bit and this rug just fits so
perfectly such a beautiful color it
literally goes like all the way up to
the front over there as you can see so
it's just a great fit I also decided
that I'm going to continue using my
World Market chair I've had this for
years I love it it's like green velvet
and I'll link it if it's still
[Music]
available look at this oil painting of
the Sailor I mean look at
him I want him in my office you know so
I thought this would be like kind of
nice A little additional touch I also
love the fact that there was like a
little pot right here and he's like
drinking coffee in this blue it's just
so cute with the boat subject matter and
overall Vibe with the silver frame too
it's just everything so I know I want to
put
this here o I can also turn the light on
you guys can see next to him I thought
this great just wooden old wooden box
just a crafted wooden box and that's
something I'll completely utilize like
I'll put pieces of mail in there that I
want to save and then I'll transfer them
to something larger once it gets a
little bit Fuller I'm going to turn
these ones around and pop them on the
Shelf there and look at this cute little
silver Bud vase and you guys know I love
my sculptures so this recent horse
sculpture I found is a lovely little
touch this room really is a hard one to
film in but I hope you guys are able to
see those pieces oh I actually forgot I
have two little candlestick holders
these ones here with gold balls and
they're like silver as well I'm just
going to put these I love when there's
two candle holders next to each other
just very like symmetrical mirroring
each
[Music]
other this reveals a little bit more on
the challenging side because a lot of
the walls are kind of missing and then
where I'm able to film is just such a
tight cramped space it's hard to get
angles I think that it looks
unbelievable like I really wish I could
invite all of you over in person to see
it but I'm going to try my best and also
I do feel like maybe checking it out
over on Instagram as well as I start
posting it there could be great because
this is a space that totally lends
itself to like a phone format you know
like a vertical format I'm actually
going to finish up editing this video
sitting right here and upload it right
here from this office and this is my new
workspace so let me reveal it to you
guys in 3 2 one
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
thank you all so much for watching
today's video and I hope that you
enjoyed it I love my office space I mean
I could sit here live here work here
forever and I just I'm so happy it was
such a labor of love but I really love
that we put the time and work into a
smaller space like this and of course
everything that I shared throughout the
video that I did use I will link in the
description box for you I hope that you
guys have an incredible rest of your day
it is currently 1:43 p.m. so let's see
how quickly this video gets up and I
will catch you all in my next one bye
[Music]
guys
