Hey guys, welcome back to my channel and welcome if you're new. Today's video is going to be my
closet to small home office makeover. Come along and DIY and decorate with me. I'm also going to
be sharing a little tour. Let's get started. Starting this video off, I actually shared
a previous video on me cleaning out this closet and taking everything out and then repurposing it
into small homes. I gave lots of organizing tips. I will have that video linked down below.
This was previously a linen closet and we just weren't using this space to its full potential,
so I decided to finally turn it into my own little space. It's 2020, we're spending a lot
of time at home and as a mom, I wanted a little retreat for myself. Once everything was out of
the closet, I took down the shelves and then I was left with the brackets and I just went through
and took off each and every one. This took a little bit of time and some elbow grease,
but I was able to get them all off the wall and once I did, I had to go in and patch up the holes
because it did leave quite a lot of damage. I use this really great spackle. It starts out pink and
dries white, so it was really easy for me to know when it was dry and then I was just able to go in
and sand it down. If you're not familiar with spackle, all you have to do is push the spackle
into the hole and then smooth it out around. Once it dries, I just went in and used a 220 grit
sandpaper, sanded it down and then I did a second coat of the spackle just because
some of these holes were huge. I would love to know down in the comment section if you guys
have your own little place that you can go to to have time by yourself. This has been done for
about a week now and I cannot tell you how nice it is to just have that little space where I can go
and drink my coffee and have some time to myself. And I encourage you, maybe it's not a home office,
maybe it's a walk-in closet, but create a little space for yourself. Once the second coat of
spackle was dry and I sanded it, it was time to paint and I used Behr's Marquee Paint in the color
Vintage Vogue by Benjamin Moore. I had this paint from a separate project and I just was curious to
see what it would look like on the wall. I had this vision and it did come together. I'm really
excited to show you guys. It's very out there but that's the fun part about this being a closet
office because I can close the door and nobody knows what's behind the doors. But I'm just going
in and cutting in and to do that I just used a really small brush and went really close to the
baseboard and then you'll see I use a bigger brush just to bring that up a bit so that when I roll
down I don't have to go as far. I highly recommend this paint. This only took one coat. I had to go in
in a couple areas and touch up but it really covered so well.
Once we cut in, I was able to go and start rolling and I had little helpers here and there
throughout this project. I love including my kids in my DIY projects whenever I can. It's
fun and they seem to also be little creatives as well so they really enjoy it.
While the paint was drying, I went to Home Depot and I had my shelves and my desk cut down. Home
Depot is awesome because they will do all of the cutting for you. So I just had my measurements
and I got two shelves in the knotty pine. I absolutely love knotty pine. I love the rustic
look of it. I love the raw wood, the beautiful honey color. It's totally my thing right now.
I've used it in quite a lot of projects around my house so I had two of those cut for my shelves
and for my desk I couldn't have knotty pine because it's very rough so I would get splinters
and I don't think that would be comfortable so I had just some soft pine cut for my desk but I
wanted to bring out more of the honey color in the wood so I used a DIY coffee stain. All I did was
run a pot of coffee once we had already drank our coffee so just kind of used the beans that were
already sitting in the filter and I put on about four coats of that onto the pine and all it did
was just bring out more of the knots in the wood and just subtly dye the wood to more of a honey
tone and I just think it flows really nicely with the two shelves. I knew I wanted the desk
to be floating so to do that I just had Home Depot cut these one by two boards to size to
fit the desk which was 15 inches out and then I just secured that to the wall. Well I didn't,
my husband did and then we just slid the desk right on top and then the two ends of the desk
sit on those little one by two pieces so it helps to keep it secure.
For the shelves I knew I wanted to have really pretty brass brackets against that green wall
so to do that I just went to Home Depot. I got these simple brackets and I gave them a makeover
using this gorgeous brass spray paint by Rust-Oleum. The color is in satin bronze and it is
such a great spray paint. It has primer in it so it worked really really well at covering all of the
black and I also spray painted the screws as well so that when they go into the bracket you would
see brass on them as well. And then my husband just drilled holes into the wall
and we used drywall anchors because we wanted to make sure that this was very secure. Some of the
screws did go into studs but some didn't so just to kind of beef up that safety we used these drywall
anchors. And then he just secured the brackets to the wall and then also secured the brackets
to the bottom of the shelves as well. And then it was time to clean everything up and
then do my favorite part which is organizing and decorating. So exciting!
First it was time to clean everything. I hope that this gives you a little bit of
cleaning motivation, helps pump you up to tackle something on your to-do list today.
I could not believe the dust from sanding the putty down.
It makes such a mess and it's like the finest dust. It was on everything.
Always knew that you were stubborn, but didn't know it'd be so hard
to figure out who you really are. I guess our dreams fell asleep. There's no passion to look
on my toes. Baby going down, down, down, down, down. Baby going down, down, down, down, down.
We tried so hard to stay afloat. Yeah, we keep moving like the river goes. Baby going down,
down, down, down, down. Just thought I should let you know. No, no, no, it's no more. No,
I got so high on a low. That's when I loved you the most. Now I thought I should let you know.
The star of this show was this sweet little chair that I thrifted for $4.99. It's perfect
because it fits right under the desk and I can close the doors to the closet. I love thrifting.
By the way, if you would want to see a thrift with me where I take you to all of my favorite
thrift stores, let me know down below and I will definitely film that. Here is a look at the
shelves as a blank slate. I'm so excited to add all of the fun elements to this space.
Tried so hard to stay afloat. We keep moving like the river goes.
I found these adorable nesting boxes on Amazon. I'll have them linked down below.
They were the perfect piece I feel like to these shelves. They have that nice honey tone. They also
add a nice natural element and they're functional because I want this space to be functional for all
of my craft supplies and electronics for making YouTube videos and all of the things. And I'm
going to give you a full tour at the end and show you where I'm storing everything, maybe give you
some organizing ideas, but here I am just adding all of the cute little pieces to this space.
I have to ask you your opinion. I almost DIY shiplapped this back wall by adding black Sharpie
lines, but something about it, I just couldn't do it, but let me know if I should go back in
and add it.
I cannot tell you how much I love this space and the total cost was under a hundred dollars
to completely transform this area and give myself something for me.
I'm going to go through and share a tour of the space, also give you some ideas. A lot of this
stuff was found at Dollar Tree, Amazon, really inexpensive, starting with this gold tray. This is
from Dollar Tree and I just have some extra Dollar Tree notepads inside this basket here. I'm keeping
all of the party supplies that I like to have on hand. I like to shop ahead of time for my kids
parties. The middle one, I have old planners I'm holding onto that one on the right. I keep all of
my camera supplies and then the tray on the end is also for extra notepaper as well. Over here, I
have these little cute little jars. Those are from Dollarama in Canada and I just have some craft
supplies in there. I also have those white painted vases that I did for my fall clean and decorate
with me. I love those vases. Those are from Dollar Tree. I have that thrifted basket with all of my
paint inside. Another Dollar Tree basket here, this wire one, and I just have these pretty
notebooks inside. The plant is from Ikea and I just printed out that is one of my favorite quotes
and I printed it out and put it in a Dollar Tree canvas. I just took off the canvas and left the
wood frame. More office supplies in those sweet little Dollarama jars. Down here, I have all of
my planner supplies. So my planner stickers, I have that organized in clear acrylic containers
from Dollar Tree and a clear napkin holder. That's a little hack I love to organize with the
napkin holders. I have my planners here. This was a really easy DIY. I'm gonna leave the video that
I watched down below. It was so easy and I love how that calendar turned out. I also just organized
my pens in this cute little wicker basket I found at a thrift store. In this nesting box,
I'm keeping all of my month's receipts and that cute little pumpkin is from Dollar Tree
and that lamp I just repurposed from my house. It's from Winners and another napkin holder there
that holds all of my morning routine items that I like to use. My journals, my bible, things like that
and then down here, I just have these cute little baskets. I got them from Dollar Tree and I'm just
putting note cards in one and other little seasonal things. That big basket's like a catch
all. I wanted a catch all for things that I just kind of need a space for and then wrapping paper,
pretty papers, things like that. And here is the final look. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. I
hope it inspired you to maybe make over a space in your home that you've been wanting to or just
give you some simple motivation to get started today. Thank you so much for watching. It truly
means so much to me. I would love so much if you subscribed before you left today and also give
this video a thumbs up. I can't wait to see you in my next one. Bye everyone!
you
