People Are Afraid Simu Liu Will Be The Next Jo Koy?

simu will be hosting the 2024 People's Choice Awards but oddly enough a lot of Asians on the internet feel weird about it let's talk about why oh my God they're going to do him like Joe Koy they're going to elevate an Asian-American male to host the show but then say he did a bad job ah uh we got to talk about this David because uh simu is going to be hosting the People's Choice Award so that's cool we got an Asian guy hosting first Asian to ever host it and of course the first Asian-American male to host it right right but in the response to that there's a the main responses of people are like oh that's good for SEO I'm glad to see it number two is oh my gosh I hope it's not another Joe Koy at the Golden Globe situation where he gets roasted afterwards for doing a mediocre job and then two and then three some people are like I'm sick of seeing simu man is he the only Asian guy why can't we have another Asian guy do something for once so we're going to talk about it we're going to discuss it from our point of view so please hit that like button check out other episodes of The Hop poot boys but you know what else people need to check out small ass sauce you're probably not sick of seeing this because uh I don't know maybe you didn't buy it it's almost sold out though so it's really delicious from suchan assistant guys uh simu recently had a viral tweet saying guys there's going to be no Taylor slander at the 2024 PCA that's a personal guarantee so I'll tell you this Sim always had a knack for viral tweets though yeah yeah yeah uh simu is a good Tweeter and uh yeah I mean I think it's cool because we're friends with simu but I still we got to be like intellectually honest about why does it seem like oddly enough there's like a weird I hat seu train on a site even as technically Pro Asian as next shark why that is why there should be or shouldn't be or what's the root of it it's really interesting that of all controversial Asian figures simu Leu is one of them I don't know why like I think it literally goes VI ramaswami and then Sim I'm just kidding no they're not as controversial as each other but that's how it feels in the next shark comments sometimes and I don't really understand it because to me listen now whether or not you like everything that simu is said or done he's an Asian dude he's a straight Asian dude he plays volleyball basketball he likes Boba he's be he's very he's very Pro Asian a lot of his friends are Asian he's not shy about you know his Heritage you know he's uh he's made it from Canada and China so technically he's an immigrant twice and uh honestly I just feel like he's kind of talented at a lot of things now maybe not everybody loves everything that he does but to me it's impressive and to me he's an Asian dude so I'm like I mean we have like this is what we're always crying about is like yo we need Asian guys we need Asian guy representation we need normal Asian guys we need Asian guys to be normalized and here we are we got simu yeah I almost think that people don't like how multifaced he is because he hosted the Juno Awards a bunch of times he obviously has witty tweets he wrote a book or like multiple book you think it's just because people are hating on him in a jealousy way or they're like simu if you're going to try to be a jack of all trades can you just be better at them can make the singing better make the tweets better make the this better make this better seu first of all I do think he has a very in a way and it's not good or bad he has a Canadian sensibility about approaching certain things which I don't I I I will say this he's a saga it's difficult to explain why Americans sometimes don't fully connect with Canadians because those cultures are so similar okay so I think that I don't know it's like a drake thing you know how like Drake is the biggest rapper now but he had to get way more gangster because when Drake first came out there like wheelchair Jimmy him doing like all this like you know what I mean like people just really wasn't with how the Canadians develop sure sure sure it's a little different I guess and I guess just that um I think that people feel like he's from such a similar background to other asian-americans that were overachievers born into like those High achieving responsibility Asian parents like tiger parents but he's like the like the cockiest snarkiest version of a guy that they know in their real life whereas you know somebody like uh let's just say Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan you didn't even know a guy like that right right right or or the K-pop stars of the BTS guys you don't know anybody like that how about this though and we're going to get into the comment section but I guess my last thing would be like I guess take simu in in the macro I think when you put anybody under a microscope and you look at every single clip every single interview every single when you say clip andw are you referring to this clip from Spider-Man your favorite Spider-Man me I was Spider-Man for kids birthday parties thank you very much and I feel like I'm an underappreciated Spider-Man you know I didn't do it for this I didn't do it for this I did it for the smile on the children's faces and somebody sent that to us and was like see this is what I'm talking about yeah yeah I mean he could have had a different answer I agree you know what that's why I'm saying if you put anybody under a microscope though anybody literally David who could you put under a microscope like 90% 99% of stars if you put them under a microscope you're going to find some things that you don't agree with or that you're like when he do it differently oh he could had a better answer oh he was a little cheesy then I'm like yeah but you take it in the macro in the big picture right especially people who are prolific and Hyper confident in how they're feeling at the moment like when people are hyper confident not everybody's going to like like everything that they're confident about in that moment with that timing in that cont and I think it's bias last thing is that because people are Asian and follow an Asian page like next shark you're going to see suu's face more often than if you only follow TMZ if you only follow TMZ you've seen simu face pop up maybe once but if you and if you follow people um People magazine or Newsweek or all these other media sites you're Pro E entertainment you're only going to see simu a couple times but since you follow next shark then you see Sim's face often because they cover the Asian and not only that simu is the only guy who sort of fits into that e or like Access Hollywood world where like he could have you know what I mean been a host for Access Hollywood as well like he has a a very mainstream skill set like I think a lot of people love Stephen uden but he's like very uh how to describe it he's a very like sad yeah and like I know like it's not a mainstream skill and shout out to Young Mao cuz some people were like oh why don't we have like young Mao do it I'm like young Mao is relatively new to the game and and you only seen him in one role so far so I'm like why would people pick him like he's not like he doesn't sh doesn't have the comedy chops I'm saying that's what it's shown so far so I'm saying of course simu is going to be the best Asian pick right now simu to me is the only Asian-American actor that fits into that Michael J Fox like Tom Cruz almost like old school like ' 80s 90s leading man thing like even going to watch the People's Choice Awards I'm not going to lie I'm going to tune in now because of seu but like previously I did not watch that show I did not watch anyway let's just get into the comments section somebody said how many parents and math jokes are there going to be how many times is he going to bring up that he was fired from his uh accounting job become before becoming a full-time actor etc etc so these were kind of comments where they're like dude I guess kind of like kind of making fun of dude these are only deep cut comments because you're Asian and you followed seu this whole journey you have to understand he going to probably be making jokes mostly for an audience that is not as familiar with his story and only maybe as seeing him in Barbie right but watch Shang Chi honestly I think he's going to do like an eight out of 10 job at the people's he's going do because like he has the hosting chops and the most important thing are like you have that skill set for that given situation um somebody said my gripe with simu is that he tries too hard to please and it comes off as desperate okay here's my thing it's like if I was in his position you would see me trying out a 10 out of 10 level too yeah you know what I mean and like what do you mean try hard I could see where they're coming from too but it's just like man when you're the only one to really get the platform I mean I see some people say that like Aquafina tries too hard or whatever too and I'm just like yo listen to be the first one you got to try too hard I don't know it's like but yeah it's true of course everybody's going to like I I think anybody who's multifaceted um I guess gets viewed as try hard you know I guess I guess stevenh Yun could have been another pick but what I mean he's too serious and he's too old he probably didn't want to do that um like simu fits in with the people's here are some negative comments he's about to embarrass the entire Asian Community I'm all for Asian representation I just don't want this guy representing us and then other people were like what are you talking about he didn't do anything representation is representation this guy said Scotty no Joe Koy already set us back I don't need to happen again this is a hilarious comment by the way who somebody whose uh Avatar is Kobe and Scotty Pitman morph together by the way I just just noticed that it's actually kind of funny but I mean um yeah and then other people were just like debating about like who made him the self-appointed face of Asian people the self-appointed I mean he didn't self-appointed yeah I mean I think the thing is he got to keep himself relevant and in the news cycle too you know what I mean so it's like if you have the skill set is it weird that an Asian leading man is also doing hosting hosting gigs used to be like are very much considered like thankless jobs but it's just like man Asian-American males it's like I feel our archetype it's almost in terms of um getting downplayed it's probably getting downplayed the most in Hollywood so you got to try extra hard to combat that fractionation of your uh opacity essentially um somebody just said you know what is going on with the uh I hate simu Leu hate train yeah I don't get it I think it's like too strong um somebody is calling out the Asian Community saying you know what man on most other media sites this is positive but on next shark there's like a crab in a bucket mentality where like other East Asians don't like seeing other East Asians and they feel like it only represents them um do you think that there is a crab in the bucket mentality and that is contributing to the hate on SE Mo yes I think so here's my why because a particularly I'm just going to say East Asians let's just focus on them for now they are hyper competitive we all know this so coming from a hyper competitive kind of background of culture well let's be honest it's kind of nerds right yeah hyper competitive nerds that are judgmental all right and your high Achievers and you're of course you're going to judge simu he look like you know CU you know what it is that's what it goes back to my original point and I I had to let my thoughts process it's because he's too similar he you feel like he's from your overachiever friend group that was interc competitive and Petty you mean it feels like simu is not elevated enough for you to praise him all the time he doesn't look like an anime character he doesn't look like he's not like super OD crazy at like singing or he's kind of a normal guy like he is a he's above normal obviously but he's like normal for an actor very normal for an actor to be honest like and I'm saying that that's interesting because some people love him for it but then it's so interesting that that it almost creates that same pettiness you would see amongst like the kids who are trying to get the best GPS I'm going be honest I'm gonna be honest I think a lot of the people who are having negative reactions to simu may or may not be Chinese and I think that when some people see just a normal Chinese guy or a normal Asian guy or they think simu said some cringe or cheesy Stuff or whatever throughout his time uh I guess like I could see them being like ah normal Chinese guy man it's not that that cool like a I'm tired why is this guy the thing you know and I'm just like but I think other Asians might slot him in that normal Chinese guy role and and like it you mean like it some people like him for it and some people some people like him for it and some people don't like him for it it's a little bit like Jeremy Lynn you know Jeremy Lynn I think he had the physicality and shout out to Jeremy it's like but on some aspects he is like a really normal dude but some people want the Asian Pioneers to be Fantastical in in a way that to me like I'm not saying people having sour on him since but like Eddie hang at one point was bombastic and Fantastical in how he was acting right as far as what he was saying yeah so I think that it's this weird thing in Asian America where we we're so used to how entertainment is back in Asia where people have to be born with like crazy genetic proportions to even get a chance to get on you know what I mean and so that's why I think it's just so different anyway um ultimately man what's your takeaways I I hope simu does a really good job honestly he he always kills it with the Juno Awards he's dancing Bollywood he's doing this he's doing that I'm sure he's going to hit all his cues he's practicing right now I mean ultimately I think it's a good look for Asian dudes but you know the internet sh how they feel is valid too no I think I think simu is going to do fine I think he's going to do good and I think uh I predict that it'll be better than everybody thinks I think simu is GNA impress you man I think simu takes this kind of stuff seriously he does not take it lightly and I think he will impress you all the haters out there anyways guys
