Elsie, tell us more about what we can expect from this storm.
This is one of two big systems set to hit Ontario, Quebec and
Atlantic Canada this week.
It's arriving today.
The second one pushes in for the weekend and it's bringing a
messy mix of rain, snow, freezing rain and very gusty
winds across Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
So widespread warnings in addition to all of this
active weather.
Now, the snowfall totals are limited through southern and
southwest Ontario, but it certainly picks up quite
quickly as you head further north and east.
Cities like Ottawa and Montreal could be looking at 15 to 30
centimetres of snow.
For areas further south and west, it's mixing with rain and
so that's limiting the snow totals, but it will still be
messy in its own right just due to the sheer amount of
precipitation.
Very gusty winds across Ontario and Quebec through today as this
system moves its way in, leaving a lasting impact through
Wednesday as colder air floods in and everything flips over to
flurries.
Now, that moves into Atlantic Canada tonight and in its wake,
we see another system arriving for Friday that will last into
Saturday, tracking in the same route.
Now, for Atlantic Canada, the system pushing in tonight is
going to bring with it that messy mix of snow and rain.
First snow for New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, flipping by midday
Wednesday over to heavy rainfall.
Winds gusting up to 90 kilometres an hour in our
maritimes, but for Newfoundland, the wreck house region, 130 to
150 kilometres an hour and that will last through Thursday.
Now, all of that's happening in the east, but for the west,
we've got a Pacific frontal system driving weather warnings
there, heavy snowfall, winter storm warnings with up to 30 to
50 centimetres of snow in those mountain passes and extreme
cold in terms of the wind chill it's been feeling through the
morning, near minus 50 in Yellowknife.
