During this period, the rise of the twin-engared heavy fighter, the most well-known of which is the twin-engared demon P-38, was preceded by an outstanding twin-engared heavy fighter designed by the German aviation industry, which competed with the BF-110 for the Imperial Air Force twin-engared destroyer.However, due to delays in the delivery of engines, the fighter's flight performance was inferior to that of the BF-110 when equipped with low-power engines, so it was rejected.Later prototypes were used in factory air defense and even shot down a few bombers.

第二次世界大戰中，梅塞施密特所主持的飛機公司成爲德國飛機制造商中最大的贏家，設計製造了許多著名的飛機。如被稱爲“德意志之鷹”的BF-109；世界上首架以火箭發動機爲動力的戰鬥機Me-163；世界上最早投入實戰使用的噴氣式戰鬥機Me-262等。
在此期間，雙發重型戰鬥機崛起，其中最爲人熟知的就是雙身惡魔P-38戰鬥機了，但其實比P-38戰鬥機更早的時候，德國航空業也設計出一款性能傑出的雙發重型戰鬥機，曾和BF-110一起競爭帝國空軍雙發驅逐戰機。但因爲發動機遲遲不能交貨，該戰機在裝備低功率發動機的情況下，飛行性能不如BF-110，因此而落選。後來生產的原型機被用於工廠防空，甚至還擊落過幾架轟炸機。
它就是今天我們要說的由德國福克-沃爾夫公司研製的重型戰鬥機Fw-187戰鬥機。
