Carving a Chinese Soapstone Seal for Landscape Painting

Red seals gives the Chinese painting or sumie a visually powerful balancing effect in the compostion. One function of seal was referred to as a "corner seal"(壓角章, 压角章) also known as "balancing foot seal" （押腳章, 押脚章）. Side Seals, also kown as Connecting Seals, are usually placed near the middle of the painting or between different sections of the composition. If the Side Seal(s) can be used properly, they can make the whole work more connected. They are mainly in the shape of rectangular bar or in any other shapes.
The contents of Corner Seal and Side Seals could be anything, which add meaning to the painting. They are called mood seals or leisure seals(闲章, 閒章).
