Over the past couple months we have noticed an increase in stray cats visiting our farm, three of them are black cats and have joined our 6 black cats we currently have in the house. Black cats tend to not be adopted when in shelters and are often put down due to this fact. The other cats we have caught will go to our local shelter and will have a good chance of being adopted out to new families.
This week we made the hard decision to put our 9 year old Bernese Mountain Dog to sleep. Atlas was not only one of our family dogs, but a friend that will be remembered. His breed has a genetic disorder called Degenerative Myelopathy that slowly causes paralysis. He started to show signs in the spring of 2023 and has slowly gotten worse. The decision was made in regards to his quality of life to ensure he did not suffer any pain. Bernese Mountain Dogs normally live between 6 - 8 years of age.
