Hello everybody and welcome to That's Football. The Super League returns, probably not the Christmas
present you want unless you are Florentino Perez or Barcelona or even the Glazers, but it is coming
back. There's been a huge decision in the EU's top court today saying that FIFA and UEFA acted
unlawfully in blocking the breakaway competition. What does this mean? It means that any Super
League is free to do what it wants. In fact, the agency behind the Super League, A22, have come out
with a tweet this morning saying, we have won the right to compete. The UEFA monopoly is over.
Football is free. Clubs are now free from this threat of sanction and free to determine their
own futures. And that is what, well, there's more to that. But I mean, look, ultimately,
you've got to get your comments in here. Some people are very pro this Super League. It makes
me want to throw up because as a Manchester United fan or as a Liverpool fan, the European
Cup means something to Manchester United. I mean, let's be pretty blunt here. Manchester United,
the Busby Babes, that team died coming back from the European Cup. That team was basically
decimated. And in 68, we won it. This will be the death of the European Cup. This is the death of
football as we know it. That's the plan. People are just so ridiculously naive through history
about certain change, which is about money and domination. Oh, it'll be fine. It'll be
fine until it's too late. I think the Super League is sickening. Absolutely sickening.
There was a dress rehearsal before. They've tweaked it a little bit. The clue was in the
first plan. They took no interest in the fans. They were going to create a Super League with
no relegation for the select best 20 clubs in the world where they would play each other every year
like the NFL with no relegation all around the world. Liverpool against Manchester United in
Sydney. Real Madrid against Barcelona in Mexico. This was the plan. Everybody went against it.
UEFA and FIFA tried to block it. They've appealed it through the courts. But what they've not
realised is football fans majority don't want this. Now, it's up to you how you react to this.
But look, oh, they've changed the plans, Mark. They've listened. They haven't bloody listened.
They went for the most greedy option. It didn't work. So now they're going for option two because
they want to get it through. This will be the death of the Premier League. This will be the
death of the European Cup. They'll start it off by saying, oh, no, it's just a midweek tournament.
We're going to have 80 teams in it with relegation open to everybody. How the hell does that work,
by the way? What do you do if you're a Brighton? What do you do if you're in Everton? What do you
do if you're anybody from the bottom half of the Premier League? What do you do if you're a
championship club? How do you enter to get into the fourth tier? How do you ever expect to go up
through the divisions when in the top tier they're earning mega money? I mean, this is why this is
probably why Liverpool are not for sale anymore. This is probably why the Glazers aren't for sale
anymore. Both were up for sale a year ago. Both aren't up for sale now. Both were involved in the
original Super League. Wake up and smell the coffee. This is just rich people trying to get
rich. This ain't about football. This ain't about the fans. It never was about the fans.
What their original plan was a big up yours to the fans. Oh, you're a Liverpool fan, are you?
Well, if you want to watch us play against Chelsea, we're playing in South Korea next
weekend. Sort yourself out because we've sold it out anyway. This is globalization of football,
which is good, but it benefits nobody. You know, if you live in South Korea, you won't be watching
every Liverpool game. You might get one. If you live in New York, you won't be watching every
Arsenal game. You might get one. And if you live in London, you won't be watching many of them at
all. This is globalization of football to a mass audience to make more money from a sport which
we know they're only obsessed with making money with. I am dead against it. Call me a fossil.
Call me a dinosaur. But I like the Premier League. I like the I like the European Cup.
I don't want it to be changed. Yes, UEFA, the Premier League have got their issues, but
football in their hat, football in the hands of freedom. What is that freedom? Is that football
in the hands of fans? Is it bollocks? It's in the hands of presidents who are out to make money.
There'll be no better than UEFA. Oh, the club's working together. It'll be better.
There'll be a hierarchy. It'll be a hierarchy. Florentino Perez was running this anyway at
Real Madrid. I mean, can you imagine UEFA disappears? The Super League comes in and
it's run by the clubs. But Florentino Perez is in charge. Oh, yeah. You can just imagine Real
Madrid getting relegated, can't you? That's going to happen. You can just imagine Real Madrid not
getting the players that they want. This is a monopoly, pure and simple. This is about the rich
getting richer and the very rich. This is about Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus poor because the
Premier League's making so much money. This is I mean, look, I don't know what's going to happen,
but we can't. We will lose the Premier League, basically, because what they will do is they'll
say, no, we don't want to impact any domestic league. We're just going to play midweek in this
new Super League. But what will happen is the Man City's and the Arsenal's and the Man United's of
this world will be playing Real Madrid in L.A. on a Wednesday and then expected to play Brighton
in Brighton on Saturday. So you'll end up with because you're so wealthy, you'll end up with two
squads and Man United will have about 40 players and they'll make those players up by taking the
best players from the Brighton's and the Crystal Palace's. So Brighton and Crystal Palace become
really ----. And then when Man United play in the Premier League, it'll be like we'll just play the
game because we've got we've got Barcelona in Sweden on Wednesday and that's what it will be.
And the Premier League will die because the quality will drop. All the decent players in
this, all the decent teams in the Super League will have to buy all the decent players from all
the other clubs that have huge squads, huge rosters. It's basically going to be the NFL,
but globalised. That's what it's going to be. I'm dead against it. It will be the death of
and we will just be fixated by this money league, which is being played all over the world.
We will lose what you have at the moment. You know, you think about the wall of Dortmund with
all the fans there. You think about the Kop. You think about the Stretford end. You think about
the Emirates. You think about all these amazing grounds and atmospheres you get every other
Saturday in England. It will die. It will die because the club's focus will not be on Man
against Liverpool in the Premier League. It will be against Man United against Liverpool in the
Super League, which is being played in Saudi Arabia. That is where we're heading. And look,
it was probably where we were always heading. I just think some people didn't realise it.
It's going to be very interesting. I mean, it's like anything, isn't it? We had it with Man
United in the Mason Greenwood situation. Some people just didn't care about what happened.
They wanted him to play football. And the same thing with the Super League. Some people just
think this is great. This is great. And yeah, in the mud, UEFA. Get in the mud, UEFA. Yeah,
get in the mud, UEFA, for Perez and his lot, who are just going to basically dictate like a
monopoly football. And it just becomes a big NFL cash cow. Franchise football, basically.
Yeah. Well, look, you know, maybe things change. Evolution. You know, 40 years ago,
people didn't have a mobile phone. Now they live on them. Maybe we're naive to think that football
wasn't going to evolve into this. I hope that the English clubs do what they said they were going to
do when they came out last time, and that is never join a Super League. A Super League will not work
without the Premier League. So, you know, I hope that that happens. But my suspicion is that when
you look at Liverpool and Manchester United, who were both balls deep in the Super League, and let's
not forget Liverpool and Man Utd fans, and Arsenal fans, let's not forget your current owners cared
so much about you as fans that they did this deal from, you know, 18 months behind everybody's back
and then announced it and expected everyone to jump on board. They're all still there.
And Arsenal fans will say, well, Cronky's doing a good job now, but you were trying to get him
out after the Super League. He never left. The Glazers, Man Utd fans were trying to get them out.
The Liverpool owners, they were trying to get them out. The Liverpool owners and the Man
Utd owners were looking to go. They've not gone. And surprise, surprise, the Super League's back.
The Super League, if Man Utd couldn't sell to Qatar for five billion, it's because they knew
something was coming down the road that was going to make a club that's not worth five billion
worth eight billion, and it's the Super League. It's as simple as that. That's what this is.
It makes your stomach turn if you know what they were trying to do before and what
they're doing now. This new Super League format is still a wolf. They've just put it in sheep clothing.
Ultimately, the Super League's principle is to make Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and
another eight or nine clubs super mega rich because they're jealous of the Premier League.
That's what it's all about. And they'll invite the Premier League clubs in because they want them
and they'll offer them a lot of money. But ultimately, the power will be with the original
trio now because they will say Barcelona, Juventus, Real Madrid, we didn't back out.
We stood there. We've gone to court. We've won the case. This is our league if you want to join it.
I hope the Premier League clubs say sod you. I hope we don't because I think the Premier League
can compete. It just needs to be more forward thinking in how it raises money because
there's going to be a lot of money in that Super League and it must fail. Let's wait and see if it
does. Get your comments in below. Smash the like on the video. I'll speak to you on the next one.
