The Master of Shadow Puppets

Fan Zheng'an is preserving the tradition of Taishan shadow puppetry in Tai'an, China. This type of art was created more than 2,000 years ago. Zheng'an, now 76 years old, has been there for 68 years and is essentially a one-man puppet band. He operates four to eight (and sometimes dozens!) of puppets in his performances. Zheng'an also does voice acting, writes stories, and plays music (with his feet, of course). Join us as we lift the curtain on this master puppeteer's performance.
