His aim is usually to stand on mountain peaks. Even for Dani Arnold, starting a climb with a descent into the darkness was a new mountaineering experience. Follow Dani’s adventure in the depths of the Plaine-Morte glacier and his climb back to daylight with an ice axe.

Water flows into the glaciers
Exactly what happens to the water and where it precisely flows through
is not exactly known
We know there is a channel in the glacier
At the beginning the so-called glacier mills
They go straight into the glacier
The water somehow goes through
the glacier reaches the glacier
bed and flows along the glacier bed
Also between rock and ice and then comes out at the
glacier gate which is at
the lower end of the glacier
Usually my goal is to
climb up to reach the
summit somewhere And
now with this project
It was about something completely different
There's only water there in the summer
And there only water flows
And there you can never live
And now everything has dried up
And were there
And that was pretty cool
I mean it was incredible
being down there
And there was only ice
around And I love ice
I then felt a bit
like I was in paradise
But on the other hand it is also then
I know that even ice can collapse
Yes
Yes that's quite friendly
It's good if you're not
too big There below yes
those are
passages Those
are various small caves
And one of them was not
higher than 80
cm There I had
to say I did not feel
completely comfortable there
It won't be long now then you'll probably be able to run here in flip-flops
or certainly in sneakers
Well then
Yes the moment
Where we stopped
we have realized
that this is indeed the base
of the
glacier and that almost
only 50 meters of ice remains
That makes one
think deeply
Where I then
from the bottom of
the glacier again
properly let 's
say into daylight climbed
then you already get the feeling
Yes there was still a rope length
which was maybe 40 meters 45
meters long Next year it will
be 42 meters the year after that
It's still 40 meters and so on
It's like that for a
child when he somehow
A fairy-tale castle that was
such a fairy-tale castle for me
because it was all ice and then
went along that wall afterwards
ghly elevated and I mean the ice was
rock hard it was
really like a windowpane
It is actually quite
laborious to climb
but in this environment
it is unique
