【Classical music and nature Muzio Clementi: Sonata in G Minor No.3, Op 50, 'Didone Abbandonata' - II. Adagio dolente. This beautiful piece was played by Nathan Eckel. It has Creative Commons license and is provided through www.musopen.org.
Among the admirers of Clementi's talent at the time (when Muzio Clementi was 14 years old) was also an Englishman named Belford or Beckford, who proposed to the Clementi family to send the son with him to England, where he would take care of his highest education and then introduce him to the great world himself. It took a lot of persuasion before the father let his son go for this purpose. Clementi then lived, devoted to his studies, in seclusion in Dorsetshire, an estate of his protector, until 1770. Only then did he appear publicly in London as a pianist and composer, well-versed in all musical knowledge and skills, and achieved almost unprecedented success. In 1777, he was appointed as the orchestra conductor of the Italian Opera in London and also served in this office with skill and prudence for several years. Three years later, he undertook an artistic journey to Paris, where he received brilliant applause in every concert. Encouraged by this, he traveled through Southern Germany to Vienna, the high school of music at the time, where he hastened to get to know Haydn and Mozart. Emperor Joseph received him with extraordinary honor and arranged a kind of musical contest between Clementi and Mozart in 1781, which remained undecided, but was equally honorable for both parties. Mozart's playing, however, made a deep impression on Clementi, and the young virtuoso, who until then had almost exclusively cultivated dazzling proficiency so that Mozart perhaps not unjustly called him "a mere mechanic" in his letters at the time, since then strove very successfully to give his technically perfect performances beauty and an ideal interpretation.
