So what is Marc Elrich getting the voters this holiday season… Building Energy Performance standards (BEPS), all wrapped up as a new executive order just in time for the new year.

BEPS is an energy performance rating for buildings that will require building owners, business and condo owners to comply with some of the most restrictive requirements in the county or face civil penalties of $25,000 per day per occurrence.

While many people agree with the goal of reducing our carbon emissions, this latest “greenwash” is misleading, irresponsible and just plain wrong. The energy guidelines as proposed will require the elimination of gas fired equipment in lieu of electric equipment which just shifts the production of electricity to an offsite source.
