Are you ready for a $75,000 condo assessment?
The Montgomery County’s building performance standards (BEPS) will require the wholesale change of the heating, cooking and hot water systems from gas to electricity in condos, apartments, co-ops and office buildings.
If you live in a condo, this could result in a $75,000 special assessment per unit. For people on a fixed income, this assessment could cause them to move. For apartment buildings, the cost of these upgrades will raise rents drastically, reducing the affordable housing stock in the County.
The scope of these upgrades would be massive, requiring upgrades to building electrical services that Pepco can’t provide, requiring complete rewiring of the buildings to accommodate electric appliances and HVAC while often requiring the displacement of residents for months at a time.
What do you think the effect on your condo property values would be?
It is beyond fathomable that the County would pass this legislation without fully understanding the pain that would be felt by our citizens.
It’s past time to vote these people out.
