I got Rhythm - George Gershwin | Cover
For the final cover the year, I decided to tackle Gershwin's I got Rhythm.
My goodness, this tune completely defeated me for the most part of the year. I learned it by ear quite early in the year, maybe about March, and then spent all of April practicing it, and by extension the changes. But then I didn't practice it in May, and had completely lost it by June. In July I tried it again but got frustrated in having to relearn it so I gave up. I didn't play it at all in August. Revisited it in September, and committed to relearning it proper in October. I practiced this heckers out of it in November, and finally delivered it in December....
Yeah, what a mission ahaha. It was honestly such a beast of a tune to learn, practice, and master ( I still haven't mastered it, and heck, this is only like 1 part of the whole tune... And then the next level is soloing bebop over the changes. Help.) Nevertheless, I'm glad I took it all the way, as it pushed me to level up my piano practice. I'm really excited to dive into 2023 with some vey productive and effective practice sessions.
What was the big challenging tune for you in 2022?
