How much time do you use social media every day?
According to my phone, like 13 hours a day.
I would say around the same time too.
I think my screen time is like three hours a day on Instagram
and like an hour on TikTok.
I'm on it like all the time.
Probably like an hour, an hour and a half.
But I do generally think that things like social media
are like a Pandora's box of unknown and unintended consequences.
Watching short videos, posting posts and posting posts
has become a seasoning for many young people's lives.
It's even a must-do every day.
But this kind of sincere behavior
has had a lot of impact on learning and life.
It's bad because you can just be on your phone all day.
It's bad for your eyesight.
It's bad for you to be exposed to that kind of thing.
They know what you like.
They do follow the algorithms
and they do that to me right on Instagram.
They show me what I want to see,
what I click on all the time
and it keeps me hooked for hours.
I waste a lot of time on Instagram.
Being really concerned with my appearance
or just superficial things in general.
I think it's easy to get lost in that.
I think it's easy to lose your sense of self,
to lose sight of what's important
and to just get distracted from the things
that are really meaningful in life.
For some students, it does affect their learning.
It is so easily accessible that sometimes in class
they check out and go on social media.
It makes their attention span shorter.
They think that everything they see is real
and they hold themselves to unrealistic standards of life
and it affects them emotionally and mentally.
But there are also many students who think
social media helps them get information.
And it's good because you can stay within the news.
You can be updated.
You can have something to do.
I mean, there's good things about social media.
If the student is analytical
and they have a healthy balance in the classroom.
The internet world is not entirely real.
A lot of fake information is hard to tell.
I don't like it that a lot of people
rely on social media for their news.
Even if it's like from a legitimate news channel
and they're using it,
sometimes it's like clips are taken out of context
and just shared and re-shared.
And it sometimes creates news
that are not completely accurate.
Social media has both advantages and disadvantages.
They also advise everyone not to be addicted to the internet.
I would say it's addiction.
Maybe if I cut hours on that,
I would be able to do other things.
Spend time in nature.
Spend time with friends that make you happy.
Don't follow negative things
because it does get into your head.
Follow positive things.
