THE FIRST WOMAN in HISTORY to deadlift 400kg/ 880lbs?
I'm 100% sure that I will be the first woman to pull 400 kilos in the next few years.
I am Lucy Underdown from Kent, Europe's Strongest Woman.
The Giants Live Deadlift Championships were my first Giants Live experience.
It was such an amazing opportunity to be a part of.
I got to experience that crowd.
When I walked out to do my lifts, every attempt was just incredible.
I got to pull my warm-up lift, my 280, in front of that crowd,
which gave me so much confidence because I was so nervous beforehand.
And then I moved on to the 305, and that's when I knew that I was going to break the 700-pound barrier.
Lucy Underdown with a new world record!
The experience was incredible.
To walk out in front of that crowd and hear them calling my name and supporting me, it was just unbelievable.
Lucy Underdown!
New world record, 700 pounds!
Lucy Underdown has just broken the world record!
Not once, but twice here!
I think I'm probably capable of around 350 kilos within the next year or so.
And I'm completely 100% sure that I will be the first woman to pull 400 kilos in the next few years.
My first show was in a park in Brighton.
Just in the middle of the park with no spectators.
Hardly any people were in the competition.
And my last competition was Giants Live in Cardiff, in front of thousands of people,
cheering me on to pull a deadlift world record.
The sport is growing so quickly, and just to be a part of that is such an amazing opportunity.
I don't want to just come here for second place, I'm here for a win.
I want to do it today.
This is the platform I want to prove myself on.
It's the ultimate show for us at the moment.
And the mighty Lucy Underdown!
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Britain's Strongest Woman 2023!
Welcome to Giants Live!
We are here at Britain's Strongest Woman, where some of the strongest women in the world
are going head-to-head for the title of Britain's Strongest Woman.
We have the log press, the deadlift, sandbag steeplechase, yoke, and then finishing off on the power stairs.
Make sure you watch until the end so you can see who has crowned Britain's Strongest Woman.
Event one, 90 kilo log press for reps.
Easy first rep for both these athletes.
Real pedigree in this event.
That speed again, so key.
Yeah, they'll both have that seven reps in their head. They know what Rebecca's done.
Neck and neck at this stage, nothing to choose between these girls.
Former world's strongest woman, Thomasin.
She looks really strong.
Underdown, Europe's strongest woman.
She hits another rep.
Event two, 220 kilogram axle deadlift for reps.
Axle deadlift, the quality of the scale.
This is just an incredible pairing.
Lucy just recently deadlifting 700 pounds.
She is the queen of the deadlift, but Andrea likes the deadlift as well.
And just looking at the platforms, Loz.
Look at the pace of Lucy Underdown on platform number one.
That is truly unbelievable.
She's already on eight repetitions, and if anything, she's accelerating.
Yeah, Lucy will be looking to beat Rebecca Roberts' ten.
That's what she'll have in her head.
And there you go, and clearly she's capable of more.
She's happy with the eight.
There we go.
Possibly 18 reps was possible by her.
I think it's fair to say she really is in a league of her own there.
One point separating the top three.
It couldn't be more perfectly poised.
Event three, sandbag sleeping chase.
Underdown.
There is the whistle, and both girls are away.
Roberts starts the charge down the course.
Underdown right there with her.
And both girls looking astronomically powerful at this stage.
I think this could be a fast one, Neil.
Both ladies looking great for the first half.
Rebecca choosing to go around the equipment there because she's so tall.
The effort required to get under there.
And that gave Underdown the opportunity to just edge in front laws and made it stick there.
Underdown on fire.
As long as there's no mistakes.
There we go, well done.
Underdown not far behind.
Lucy Underdown with the win.
Massive performance.
Lucy in second place, and we saw Laura with the win.
Lucy's at the top, Rebecca in second, Andrea in third.
Equal with Donna Moore, who's on the charge.
Event four, 260 kilogram yoke.
Probably my weakest event of the day.
I know that there are some phenomenal yoke runners in this group of girls.
And Rebecca Roberts absolutely smashed the field at Europe.
So you cannot write anyone off, but I'll give it my best shot.
We are on the way, and both girls start to move solidly down the course.
Nothing to choose between them.
But Underdown keeps that composure.
And it's Lucy with the win.
Laura just behind her.
The time will be critical.
Rebecca Roberts taking the win.
Look how close that was between Rebecca and Andrea.
Lucy Underdown in third, but Chloe coming fourth.
Showing that she is well worthy of being here.
One of the lightest athletes.
Not a single point separates first and second place.
Lucy Underdown, Rebecca Roberts both sharing 47.5 points.
It is a tie.
Event five, power stairs.
I think it's going to be a very close race between me and Rebecca Roberts.
So it's going to be very tight.
But I want to win this event, stand at the top of the stairs,
and be Britain's Strongest Woman.
On the way we go.
Both ways, accelerating down the course.
Another moment to spare as they hammer the first 120 kilogram block
to the top of the platform.
And still nothing to separate them.
And you do feel like whoever can hold their nerve will get this.
Roberts, that superior height, doing advantages all day long.
And she looks like she's there for this one.
It is Rebecca Roberts with the win.
Rebecca Roberts with the win.
You can see the emotion pour out of her right now.
I did want to win.
We don't do this to come second, and I am gutted.
I worked my ass off for this today.
But I'm very proud of myself.
But I can't take anything away from Rebecca.
The stuff that she's been through in this past year
is absolutely horrendous.
And a lot of people would just throw in the towel and give it up.
And she doesn't. She just keeps going.
And that really embodies what we are as strong women.
And she's fantastic.
And she deserves every second of this moment.
I think from here the sport is going to grow so much.
It's going to just keep expanding.
And the following is just going to increase and increase.
The more that we can show the world what we can do,
the better it's going to get.
It's going to just be incredible.
I'm so excited to be a part of the World's Strongest Nation.
Last year I got to watch it from the crowd.
And this year I'm actually a part of it.
It was a phenomenal show this year.
It's going to be a tight match between us and the Americans.
And I just know that the British are going to smash it.
