Hello everyone.
I am currently in Narita.
I have a flight to Kansai today,
but since I arrived a little early, I wanted to take a walk around Narita.
I know that many people use Narita Airport when traveling in Japan
but there are times when you really need to kill some time in the Narita area because of your flight.
Today I'm going to introduce you to a place where you can go for a quick visit at such times.
Okay, I'm off.
Let's go to "Naritasan Omotesando" (Narita Mountain Omotesando).
This is a walkway that runs about 800 meters from the front of Narita Station.
More than 150 restaurants and souvenir shops line the promenade,
where you can enjoy a variety of gourmet food and shopping, including the famous eel dishes.
Isn't this just like Ninenzaka in Kyoto?
You don't have to go to Kyoto, you can just look around at the airport while waiting for your flight.
It's only a 5~6 minute train ride from Narita airport.
Kawatoyo" is a long-established famous eel restaurant.
It smells so good.
I have never seen such a freshly grilled eel.
Kawatoyo is a very popular restaurant and there is a long line around noon,
so you need to get a numbered ticket and make a reservation in advance.
We had some time to kill before it was our turn to get a numbered ticket
so we headed to Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.
The vast grounds of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple are home to numerous halls and a natural park,
as well as a variety of profit spots and power spots that are said to increase one's luck.
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple Naritasan Shinshoji Temple is famous for its wide range of benefits, such as happiness in life, security in the home, and prosperity in business.
Before visiting the temple, wash your hands and mouth.
Isn't it really big?
It looks like Asakusa.
Yes, the Kaminarimon Gate.
It's so elaborate.
There is a turtle.
You mean a rock shaped like a turtle?
There are rocks and a real turtle. Yes, there is.
We've reached the main hall.
This is the place where entertainers and sumo wrestlers throw beans during setsubun.
Is that true?
It's often on the news.
Have you seen it on TV? Yes, I have.
The three-story pagoda?
This magnificent three-story pagoda was built in 1712 and is an important cultural relic.
The carved rafters on each level are made of a single plank, and are called ippai-taragi (single-layer rafters).
In the main hall, the symbol of Mt. Narita,
a goma prayer has been held every day since the temple opened to pray for world peace and people's happiness,
and the public is welcome to view the whole process in the main hall.
I have been visiting the shrine.
Just now I received a call from the Eel Restaurant that it was time for me to come,
so I would like to go there.
Kawatoyo Narita's original eel restaurant, which has been in business for over 100 years. The historic wooden storefront has been designated as a national cultural treasure.
The restaurant has table seating on the first floor and tatami room seating on the second floor.
Please walk along the "eel".
This "top" or "extra top" is quantity, not quality.
It is as if the price changes with the quantity of eel.
The "Top Unaju" is a whole eel.
The "extra high quality eel" is 1.5 eels.
Since I want to eat different kinds of eel, I think this (2/3 of an eel) is enough.
I'm thinking of having the liver sucker.
The atmosphere is really nice.
They were processing eels a while ago.
I wonder if they serve the eel that was alive a few hours ago.
Isn't it that fresh?
I heard that it is a registered cultural property.
The main restaurant itself?
Yes, it is. That's amazing.
Umaki (ell and egg)
I'll have the umaki.
The egg is slightly sweet, and the flavor of the eel is well balanced.
The broth is also mild, so it doesn't seem to interfere with the deliciousness of the eel.
Unaju (2/3 eel)
Look at the shine.
It looks so delicious.
Delicious. It's so fragrant.
The flesh is thick and fluffy.
It is soft and easy to cut with chopsticks.
The secret to the deliciousness of this eel is the "secret sauce" that has been added since the establishment of the restaurant.
The sauce is slightly sweet and enhances the original taste of the eel.
Rice soaked in eel sauce is also very tasty.
The sauce is not just on the top of the rice, but is evenly distributed throughout the rice.
Liver soup is also served.
This luxurious liver soup is made from the liver that can only be obtained from one eel.
The bittersweet liver blends well with the smooth broth and makes you feel at home.
It is also delicious with sansho (Japanese pepper) on top.
The atmosphere changes dramatically when sansho is added.
Even 2/3 of an eel is enough to satisfy me.
Thank you for the food.
The eel was delicious.
I would like to go for a walk now.
What should I eat?
Take a look. I heard that you can try dumplings.
They say they are fried dumplings.
They are delicious.
They're really crispy. That's because they're fried.
It looks like it would go well with hot tea.
Hayashida's Rice Crackers The oldest rice cracker specialty shop in Narita, popular for over 100 years.
Soy sauce flavor, please. 100 yen each.
They smelled so good there that I was tempted to buy one.
Delicious, crunchy, and just the right amount of saltiness.
Thank you for your patience. Thank you very much.
Kaiun Yaki Dango
These dumplings are so big. They really are.
They also put a lot of mitarashi on the dumplings.
The part where the charcoal hit the dumpling was crispy and tasty.
Shimoda Koseido Panchaya Bakery and cafe run by a shop that was originally an old eel shop. A wide variety of copped bread and specialty "eel bread" are popular.
Look, look, look.
Look at this Koppebun.
It's huge.
This size.
It looks delicious. There is also fried bread.
This is the eel bread.
I'll have a peanut cream coppie pan and a sugar one of the fried breads.
Would you like to eat inside? Yes, please.
The peanuts looked delicious, so I chose the peanut cream.
This is what it looks like inside.
Delicious.
The peanuts are coarsely packed and the crunchy texture makes it very satisfying and fun to eat.
Fried bread.
It is slightly warm.
There were three flavors: sugar, soybean flour, and cocoa, but I chose sugar.
The bread is fluffy and the bread itself is delicious.
The sugar is quite firm, so the sweetness is quite strong.
I wonder why there are so many things related to the Chinese zodiac.
Stone statues of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs at the entrance to the temple.
Perhaps Shinsho-ji Temple is the temple related to the Chinese zodiac.
Besides eating and walking, you can also enjoy shopping at the many souvenir shops.
Chiba is famous for peanuts, so there is a crazy variety of beans.
Peanut monaka.
Shaped like a peanut.
Inside is bean paste.
Now that we have eaten and walked around, we go back to Narita Station
and take a train to a place called "Higashi-Narita Station.
Something opened up.
When the "Karakuri Clock" in front of Narita Station opens at a certain time,
kabuki-themed puppets appear and happily tell tourists the time.
We have arrived at Higashi Narita Station.
Look at this deserted station.
Higashi-Narita Station was originally opened as the first "Narita Airport Station".
However, when the current Narita Airport Station was opened in 1991,
there were two "Narita Airport Stations", so this one was renamed "Higashi-Narita Station".
Later, as a result of the transfer of the airport's gateway functions to Narita Airport Station and Airport Terminal 2 Station (opened in 1992),
Higashi-Narita Station became known as a station that seemed to have been left behind by time.
It is now rumored to be a "hidden station at Narita Airport.
The sign above the station has faded,
and I feel that a lot of time has passed.
I wonder how long it has been there.
Can you see it? I can't see it.
Through the gap covered by the fence you can see the former coffee shop and rest area.
I think the station used to be busy with airport passengers.
The mural here was a trick to make foreign visitors feel, "Ah, I've arrived in Japan.
Time has stopped, hasn't it?
We didn't do any renovations or anything like that.
Yes, that's why it's a bit peeling.
Now let's go to the ground floor.
The escalators have stopped. Of course they have.
I wonder how many people go through here.
Once on the ground, you can see the control tower in front of you
and the elevated road on the other side
which gives you the atmosphere of an airport itself.
This is the entrance to Narita Airport Terminal 2 Station.
That's the station in use now.
From this stranded station to a station in the real world.
Look.
The total length of the connecting corridor is 500 meters.
The inorganic corridor goes on and on.
There are some repairs going on here.
There are also surveillance cameras.
I passed one for the first time.
It looks like a bomb shelter.
There is a poster, but I wonder when it was made. It looks old.
200 meters to go.
I didn't know the signal didn't go through here.
It worked at the beginning, but it stopped in the middle.
If you want to experience the air of another world, please visit Higashinarita Station.
Gradually, I heard a lively sound.
This is the Narita Airport station that is now in use,
This is Higashi-Narita Station, which we just passed.
If you come from here (Narita Airport Station), you can go this way (Higashi-Narita Station).
We are now at Terminal 2, but we are going to Terminal 3.
I want to check in and board a plane there.
This time I will use an LCC.
No delays so far.
I just finished checking in.
I have some time before my flight, so I'd like to take a break in a cafe.
There is a fairly large food court.
I have a regular size iced latte and a homemade lemonade.
Surprisingly, there is a large food court in Terminal 3.
On the contrary, this is all there is.
It's really only for LCCs.
I'm too full to eat at the food court.
Here we are at Kansai Airport.
If you have time to kill at Narita, please check out today's video.
That's all for today's video. Bye bye~!
