In 1945, the United States began a horrific retaliation against Japan for the attack on Pearl Harbor. American B-29 bombers flew more than 30,000 sorties and dropped 160,000 tons of Molotov cocktails on Japan, killing more than 140,000 people and leaving more than 1 million homeless. But the B-29's success in the Tokyo bombing also exposed a lack of range, which severely affected American operational planning. Therefore, at the end of 1945, the United States urgently proposed the design requirements for a new bomber with a combat radius of more than 8,000 kilometers and a payload capacity of 10,000 pounds. It didn't take long for Boeing's design to stand out from the crowd, and after several refinements, it was finally approved for mass production and the B-52 was born.

The B-52 bomber is a long-range strategic bomber of the United States. Like the B-17 and B-29 bomber, it is an aircraft developed by Boeing. B-17 was called Air Fortress, and B-29 was called Super Air Fortress, so the more advanced B-52 was called stratofortress. Even B-1B and B-2 bombers came out later, they could not change the status of B-52 fortress. B-17 was called Air Fortress, B-29 was also called Super Air fortress, so the taller B-52 was called stratofortress, even after the advent of B1B and B2 bombers, could not change its status as a fortress. Since the B-52 entered service in 1955, there have been eight variants: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. By 1962, 744 B-52s had been produced, and 76 B-52s are still in service.
