Recently, Italy reported that Italy and France have agreed to jointly purchase about 700 Aster-30 air defense missiles.
The missiles are being used to equip the SAMP-T air defense system, which the countries intend to supply to Ukraine.However, it is likely that not all of the missiles will go to Kiev, the newspaper wrote.Some will remain in arsenals in Italy and France.
The Italian and French defense ministers reportedly discussed the technical details of delivering the air defense system to Kiev during a meeting in Rome on January 27, 2023.According to La Stampa, the final communique after the defence ministers' meeting made no mention of sending the SAMP-T air defence system because, according to an Italian diplomatic source, the French had asked for a little more time.
Antonio Tajani, Italy's deputy prime minister and foreign minister, said his government had offered aid worth €1bn to Ukraine."In cooperation with France, we are completing the delivery of SAMP/T, and in any case, we are secretly carrying out other operations," he said.
The final official decision will be made by Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron.
